Serious though, Awful for oilers, Kessel's contract uncertainty makes this bad for NYR, good for the leafs.

As an Oil fan, I'd love to land McDonagh, and can understand that Rangers fans might want that type of overpay (seriously, why would NY take Kessel vs The Nuge and a 1st), but seriously there is no way in hell we're moving the Nuge. I would trade Hall before I trade Nuge.

Also, anyone who thinks D is a greater need than C for the Oil has no knowledge of our needs. We need to add down the middle, not move our best player. Our D isn't nearly as bad as people seem to think, and our prospect pool at that position is one of the best in the league. Klefbom and Nurse are bluechippers, and between Marincin, Musil and Gernat we should have at least one become a serviceable NHLer. But our C depth in our prospect pool is laughable.

The value isn't terrible, but I still wouldn't want to give up the best player in the deal

If Nuge is traded I hope MacT is fired instantly.

We are not trading Nuge when we are thin down C and have been looking for a #1 since 2001 when we traded Weight.

Think about that. We went without a #1 C for a decade...

Value is quiet fair, which is what the OP asked.

But I really don't want Nash, Kessel and Callahan on the same wing

RNH + 1st for mcdonough? I can't stand the oilers but that would be terrible

no from toronto either, RNH is a bit unproven and we lose out huge with no kessel

All teams deal from a position of strength to acquire a need. Edmonton trades a center for a defender, New York trades a defender for a winger, and Toronto trades a winger for a center. Looks good for all three teams, what do you guys think? Obviously this will never happen but what do you think about the value of this trade?
Holy ****!!!!

You can tell this guy doesn't watch the oilers , because this RNH kid seems pretty good to me and WILL 1000% be way better then Mcdonagh.

Usually these blockbuster trades are ridiculous, but it actually makes sense for all the teams involved and the value is pretty fair.

Edmonton's center depth sucks without RNH, and if the Rangers want Nash on the RW, then its pointless to trade Mcdonagh to get Kessel.. Nash nor Kessel should be on the 2nd line.

The value is ok but i'm not sure any team is guaranteed to improve. Its quite possible they all improve and equally plausible none do. May be easier for all too swallow if the players involved were second tier rather than top.

I'm sure that wasn't the OP's intentions, that would be an incredibly childish move that would damage the integrity of this board

I love it when leafs player get hated on just because they're leafs. Idk if it's cause everyone made a fuss about the kessel trade or what, but kessel is easily one of the best players in the league... the guy has been top putting up incredible numbers for how long now... he's not even that bad defensevily anymore, carlyle really shaped him up. You guys are just a bunch of haters.

I'd take kessel over any of them anyday. I do like the RNH + 1st overall idea though, but then never know, edm fans might thinks it's another era of the kessel trade lol. First seguin + hamilton + knight for kessel, now possibly RNH + some awesome guy? XD

You say EDM dealing from a position of strength to address a need??? EDM's weakness is down the middle. Yes we lack a true number one D. But at least we now have depth at the position

EDM's D:
Smid - Petry
Ference - J Schultz
Belov - N Schultz/Potter/Larsen

with Klefbom, Fedun, Marincin, Davidson, Musil, and Gernat all looking promising in the pipeline.

EDM's C

Hopkins
? Gagner ?
Gordon
Lander
Acton?
????
????

Yes we lack a true number one D. But we need to a hang of Hopkins. He ain't going nowhere. One of the wingers will have to be packaged for a D.

Doesn't make sense really, we'll just be making a void in our top line, the purpose is to add a #1 center that kessel can benefit off of, not trade him for one XD

We really need a top pairing D and a #1 center >.<

Makes 0 sense for Oilers when we have drafted a Potential # 1 d in Nurse and a bonifide # 1 c is what the team lacked for over a decade. And not to mention Defensive depth is the strongest thing on Oilers while C is our weakest yep makes sense

This..

also, Rangers won't give up Mcdonagh to acquire a winger. Yes, we can use another scoring winger, but I can assure it wont be at the price of Mcdonagh, especially with Nash and Stepan as the Rangers 1/2 RW

The Oilers had to go through a year in the gutter to finally find a 1C after Weight. RNH isn't available.

Why would Stepan play RW?

I don't think it's a bad thing to have too much depth at one forward position. We can roll a more balanced offense.
