Washington - Edmonton

To Washington:

Jordan Eberle
Ladislav Smid

To Edmonton:

Troy Brouwer
John Carlson

The cap difference is less than 2 million.

Why Washington does this trade? The Metropolitan division. It appears that some of the best offensive teams are in that division and Smid is one of the better defensive defenceman in today's game. Ladislav Smid will put Alzner under his wing like Jason Smith did for him.

Why Edmonton does this? Troy Brouwer is one of the most underrated power forwards in the game today who is also entering his prime. Troy Brouwer ultimately adds size and strength to Edmonton's top 6.

Brouwer is so underrated as a power forward that he actually isn't one.

Oilers say **** no.

Last season Brouwer had 108 hits in 47 games played.

As an Oil fan, it isn't terrible. It's either switch Eberle or sweeten the pot. I like Carlson and Brouwer.

that is a steep price to pay for Carlson...

Would rather go for Alzner, Kuz, Brouwer, and a 1st for that package.

I sure as heck want over-payment for Eberle, since he's a core piece of the team.

Of course it's a ridiculous proposal. =)

No from the caps.

Carlson makes less then Ryan mcdonagh yet often out produces him. (Mcd has the edge defensively)

Now we've seen the offers for mcdonagh why should the caps accept any thing less for Carlson?

As an outsider, Eberle for Carlson straight up (minor pieces here and there) seems like almost fair value but I don't know that much about either team.

The Caps' hole is top 4 D (lefty), and they actually have a surplus of right-handed wingers. This would be awful for the Caps in terms of roster composition. The OP was ok (in terms of roster composition) because it moved the hole from LD to RD, and swapped right-handed wingers. Doesn't really do much to upgrade either team though. It'd be a trade for the sake of trading.

Welp. Ignore me, folks! This is why I shouldn't post about teams I don't know much about.

McDonagh>any defenceman on the Caps, don't be ridiculous.

As for the OP, no. We already have a poor man's John Carlson in Jeff Petry, we have nobody even remotely resembling Smid, this isn't even considering how Eberle>>>>Brouwer.

Also, the Oilers are fine at RD with Petry and J Schultz, it's LD that we need. We have some good prospects coming up in Nurse/Klefbom/Marincin, but as of right now we have Andrew Ference and Nick Schultz competing for top 4 LD spots. Also Eberle>Carlson value wise.

New worst trade proposal ever. Brouwer/Carlson isnt worth Eberle alone.

Brouwer a gritty top six forward and Carlson a Young top 2 D, is not worth Eberle?

This is a very good proposal. I think the Caps would have to add just a little bit. Cameron Schilling, NHL-ready shutdown D, would do it I believe.
