Sounds like that rumor got shot down. If we're looking at him, we'll still have a chance.

I don't like our current top-6 situation. I said before that even if Teemu returned, we'd need one more. So I'd like to add Grabovski, or Jagr. They're not ideal but they're what's left.

Hard to see that being a realistic option at this point with 5.8 million in cap space and Palmieri still to sign. I am with you though. Would make me feel much better about things.

I don`t think we need another winger. Resign Palms. After that, there is no space for Grabo. There would be if we wouldn`t signed Penner, but then again we don`t know what Grabo asked for. I could imagine a long term contract and we sure don`t need that since in several years we will hae our own prospects coming up.

Don't need another winger? Or just can't afford one?

It can't be the latter. I heard from many reliable sources that signing Penner was an absolutely no risk situation.

If we need something then that is the 2nd line center or top 4 defenseman.

Perry, Etem, Palmieri, Cogliano, Winnik, Silfverberg, Beleskey, Penner. + 1 way contracts to Maroon and Staubitz

I think that is enough for one team especially with many options at the AHL level if someone gets hurt.

Then again we are thin in the middle (FO`s and relevant #2C) and in top 4 defenseman.

Signing another winger is not needed

Well. It's literally enough to fill a lineup. Whether there are enough actual top 6 players among those is something else.

I sort of agree, though I don't see it as a problem that couldn't wait till the trade deadline if a solution is needed.

Not reeeeeeeeally seeing why $5.75M for 8 years is such a great deal for the Kings for Brown, but alright. Not a bad deal, sure, and if the measuring sticks are Clowe/Clarkson it's an entirely other story, but $6M+ for him would have looked pretty bad, IMO. Would not dream of kicking that hornet's nest on a main board, though.

I think it's a good deal for LA. $6-6.5M for Brown is not bad. Captain, 25-25+ player, and willing to get dirty.

I absolutely don't think it's bad, but that description really just doesn't scream $6M+ player, to me. I think it's a fair deal moreso than a discount. Unless everything non-free-market-overpayment is a discount, which obviously could be fairly argued. Oh, well.

In case anyone was wondering, difference between Getzlaf and Brown is marginal.

It's not a good contract when you consider what Kunitz signed for with the Pens, which obviously was a big discount but still. I think Brown is worth $5 mil or so, so the money isn't that terrible, but eight years is too long imo. Then oth, he'd get an even better contract if he was an UFA.

"Mighty gulf" or not "mighty" - it's certainly big enough to f***ing drown in there.

Fair enough. I think its a good deal for both parties. Brown probably took 500K less than he would have made on the open market.

I think that Brown deal is pretty good. Unfortunately...

And as for us not having top 6 wingers... i agree. That Penner deal really pissed me off and made my brain explode. That signing also meant that we clearly are not signing any else winger this offseason not named Palmieri and Selanne.

What's wrong with that? Our wingers are just fine with or without Selanne.

Perry
Selanne
Silfverberg
Palmieri
Etem
Penner
Cogliano
Winnik
Beleskey

The risk with 8 years for Brown is he ends up washed up at 33 like Brendan Morrow due to the physical style of play.

I think it's a decent deal(the term would be a tougher pill for me to swallow), but it's definitely higher end for the type of player you get. Brown is a quality player, who brings a good character type of game, and who does a lot of little things right... but we're still ultimately talking about a player who has a career high 60 points. He's averaged, what? About 55 points since 07-08? 54? Thereabouts? Those are respectable numbers for a top six guy, but they aren't great ones, and they aren't even close to elite.

The Penner signing is what is wrong with that

I didn`t wanted to say that we need another winger. THere was a different conversation behind it.
About wingers - we don`t have enough top 6 wingers, probably (at least not proved) bu the depth is ok.

So what proven top-6 forward did you want us to sign?
