I'm sure it's only temporary. A kick in the ass for him.

I thought Silf looked better than Zibanejad down in Bingamton.

Don't know where this belongs, but hybrid icing was just approved by the players.

So long as they don't go to the Olympic icing rule I'm happy. I'm sure we'll see a lot of controversial calls but it's going to prevent injuries which is the main thing.

I agree. It is still a race to the puck. The argument that some calls will be blown is no different than the current race to touch the puck behind the net. And the idea that a longer race will allow the underdog to win a few more hardly justifies some of the nasty injuries guys have had from the race to the boards.

The whole hybrid icing doesn't make any sense to me from a safety point.

Defense is in clear lead with no competition, no risk of injury, blow it down early.

Defense and forward are in a race and forward is slightly ahead, high risk of injury, play continues.

I don't really see how this changes anything besides Dman having to skate back to get the puck on a clear icing.

Well, it's obviously going to be subjective but the new rule says a "tie" at the dot gets blown down for icing. There's fewer collisions right there. Even if the O man has the lead, it is no longer just a race to touch up at the boards. There now is no icing. It's now about possession so guys might be a bit more inclined to play it differently versus go for the now meaningless touch with a kamakazi move.

No doubt there will be complaints, obvious blown calls, and claims of sissifying the game. But they said that too when helmets were first mandated. And how about the days of goalies with no masks. The game survived those changes and guys are a lot better protected for it.

There is an injury that never happens if there's hybrid icing.

There is another one.

Sure there will still be some injuries but if those guys are racing to the dots as opposed to the goal line those injuries don't happen.

What I mean like..

Even if a D gets beat to the dot so Icing is negated, they are still going to race to the actual puck to get puck control. Sure they don't have to fly to touch it, but they still want to get it before other player comes near so they can make a play.

In Pikanen's video he started coasting half way between the line and the Dot, wouldnt that roughly be the same time a player would be slowing down with hybrid icing if the icing is waved off?

The second video is a bit different as he got pushed from behind, I understand that they dont have to skate hard right to the end, but players aren't going to just slow right down and let the other player grab a loose puck.

In my view, there will still be some big hits at the boards. But there should be a lot fewer.

The idea was not to eliminate every icing puck battle. Only the ones that the league and the PA felt the offensive player had no real chance to negate the icing.

So don't worry, purists. There is still a chance players can get creamed into the boards in the hopes of creating a scoring opportunity with an infinitesimal chance of success, thank god.

He is, and he's also 3 years younger.

It's a smart move by Sens management. They should have done the same with Silf at many points last year.

Wow 8 for Kessel. All the leaf fans pretty much had him pegged for 7m for sure. Are they in cap trouble or what. Maybe they are just banking on the cap going up enough next season.

What Gliff really meant to say was: didn't we have a lockout to prevent these contracts?

When speaking of former Ducks, I think Bodie has looked quite good so far.

On the other hand, Leafs' defense......
