I don't why some fans want a LeBron type impact so quickly. he is still learning.

Should we also be doubting Jonas because he didn't turn into an all star his first season?
I'd say it's mostly because of the difference in positions they play, and the toolset they bring to their position. We all see that Val is remarkably athletic for a C, has great offensive and defensive instincts for his position, and doesn't look like he will be weak at anything that is required of a C. Ross is also very athletic, but athletic SG's that can shoot 3's and dunk isn't as unique as what Val brings to the C position.

I'm not saying that Ross can't improve and become a valuable member of this team, I'm just saying that the fact that Valanciunas is a 7-footer makes his athleticism and skillset WAY more exciting.

He seems like a great glue-guy, even if he doesn't become more than a Reggie Evans-esque energy player. He was always the most excited guy on the bench after a big play, and after a whistle he always seemed to be the first guy to come onto the court and high-five his teammates. I can't comment on what he's like in the dressing room, but he absolutely seems like a guy that is genuinely super excited to be part of the 12-man roster.

His minutes might not increase from last year though since he pretty much has the same skillset as Hansborough.

EDIT: He looks good in Summer League, but frankly that was expected by virtue of him actually being drafted into the NBA. Most of the guys in Summer League were undrafted, and haven't/won't even get a sniff at the NBA.

Similar mould, similar motor, but superior shooting.

I'd be very happy if he becomes a Reggie Evans. Looking forward to seeing this team actually draft in the 2nd round. BC threw those away like candy. MI has had some success drafting in denver

Reggie Evans, not quite the rebounding hound but with a reliable jumper. That's Acy's ceiling.

So, if the season were to start today:

PG - Kyle Lowry / DJ Augustin / Dwight Buycks
SG - DeMar DeRozan / Terrence Ross
SF - Rudy Gay / Landry Fields / Steve Novak
PF - Amir Johnson / Tyler Hansbrough / Quincy Acy
C - Jonas Valanciunas / Aaron Gray

Well, Chicago did only have a 1.7% chance of getting the top pick in '08.

if the roster stays as is, I think we'll be fighting for a playoff spot instead of a lottery pick.

the raps are more than likely making the playoffs this year especially with teams like Boston going into rebuild mode, thats just another spot.

Basically what you guys are saying is that this franchise can't even screw up properly?
They try to win, they remain mediocre and tail off to a 10th place finish.
They try to lose, they remain mediocre and will likely finish 10th again.
Can't they just release the entire roster and get some random guys off the streets, like Rafer Alston. Entertaining, but ultimately losing players.
And get a top 2 pick next season, a top 2-5 pick the year after that and then anything's possible.

Man this team sucks, even at sucking, it sucks.

washington and Cleveland have better and younger teams than ours. Atlanta lost Smith, but Milsap is a good replacement. Detroit has a weird team, but clearly are shooting for the playoffs with their additions of Smith and Billups.

I think we have a shot at 8th with Cleveland and Detroit, but all it takes it one trade of either Lowry or Gay and our team will be bottom five. Look at our bench, it freaking sucks. Not one reliable 6th man scorer.

don't necessarily have to finish last to get Wiggins, do we?

if we start the season as is, we'd likely be selecting somewhere in the 6-12 range at the draft. surely we have the assets to get Wiggins if we want him badly enough...

I've heard people say that this draft is a similar draft to the one James was selected in, but I have not heard anyone say Wiggins is a Lebron type talent.

if that's the case, that pick will not be moved.

He's not LeBron's equal, but he has repeatedly been called the best prospect since LeBron.

So much hype around him for so long I hope he can live up to the expectations everyone has placed on him.
