It doesn't make sense at all to buy out Liles... a lot could happen in camp injuries do happen etc. as much as people will be freaking out until opening day nothing needs to happen until then. Teams will use camp to ***** there teams and that is where trade options occur, that is when decisions will be made rather for cap space or simply making room for a youngster who makes the team... as far as we know Kulemin could be moved if cap space is required, nows not the time for a knee jerk reaction and eat cap space for 6 years on a buy out especially for a guy that can play at a pretty high level.

Any chance we trade John-Michael Liles? Would give us room to sign Franson and Kadri... two big time players for the future of the Leafs.

Really the only bad hit is year 3 but ideally we find a taker in trade to avoid this hindrance...
It'd be better for us to just retain ~1M of his salary and trade him instead of buying him out. I'm sure that some team out there would take Liles at ~2.8M.

We'd get a pick out of it instead of nothing, and instead of 6 years of a caphit, it would only be three. And it would be less than the cap-hit in 4/6 years in the buyout scenario as well.

So...... in your opinion, the Leafs are the 2nd best team in the east? IF that's what your implying, it's beyond discussion. Leafs played a great series against a Boston team that didn't, AND if your boy Dion didn't screw the pooch, they might of won the series.

So true. Remember when everybody was freaking out about fitting in Jeff Finger or upset about having to pay Lombardi, Connolly, Komisarek, etc. Very little action happens between now and camp cause almost every player is healthy and every team is hopeful their prospects meet or exceed expectations.

If we get an injury then all of a sudden we'll be thankful to have Liles and have no problem fitting him in. If another team gets an injury (some always occur around the league) or one of the prospects they hope to make the jump doesn't then all of a sudden Liles or Franson are among their trade targets. Dman who can take a regular shift every season are the # 1 desired trade piece.

Toronto / Anaheim - Cody Franson

Ducks fan here , Couldn't find A franson thread expect on the main boards however :

Devante Smith Pelly + third or 2nd

for

Franson

Were top heavy on fwd spects, DSP would be a perfect on toronto,

an

Smith-pelly Bolland Clarkson would be an unreal line.

Anaheim needs a guy like Franson and toronto DSP type of a guy with a pick to boot.

THoughts ?

I like Smith Pelly and I would probably do that. Not sure what all Leaf fans would say.

I like Smith-Pelly a lot, but I probably wouldn't do this trade. The reason is, despite Smith-Pelly being a solid prospect, I think his ceiling is a 3rd line C, maybe 2nd liner on a week team. Toronto already has too many 3rd/4th line prospects in their farm system. We need higher projecting forwards.

Actually not a bad. Was gritting my teeth looking at another out of town trade proposal thread. I really like DSP. I still would like to keep Franson if he can be retained for relatively cheap. If he prices himself way out of our price range, then this would make some sense. Still leaning towards Franson though.

No from me. Value would be fair if it was DSP+ 1st but leafs don't need forward prospects. We've got a few ready to make the jump this year or next.

However, Silfverberg straight up for Franson?!

Although the value may be good, it doesn't address our needs of a D-man playing NOW.

I'm not a fan. I think we've filled our toughness quota. I'd like to see us hang on to our skilled players.

We have gritty, depth, character forward prospects coming out our ass. Not really interested in another. Would rather just take a first rounder, which seems reasonable if you're willing to give up Pelly and a second.

I'd still rather find a way to keep him on the team than trade him for that though.

On the other hand, we'll give you Liles for a bag of pucks.

Franson isn't worth a 1st alone right now, he's had one half of a great season, prior to that he was consistently benched by 3 different coaches, Caryle, Wilson, and Trotz.

This, although I wouldn't mind DSP. Not a bad proposal, but the Leafs have Biggs, Ross, Broll, Devane as bottom-six powerforward/pest types in the system.

100% guaranteed franson can fetch a first, even with a 4 mil cap hit.

Fransons agent would present a pretty good arguement with that.

Do Leafs have interest in Cammalleri?

So Cammalleri wasn't willing to re-sign with Calgary back in the 2009 off-season, and opted for UFA.

Rumours at the time had him regarding Toronto as a preferred destination, but Burke wasn't interested, so no offers came from the Leafs.

Cammalleri signed on with Montreal, and had a couple really good seasons, but when the team got unhinged in what eventually would be a 29th place finish, they dealt him back to Calgary (mid-game!) for Rene Bourque.

The 2013-14 season is the last year on Cammalleri's current contract.

Given what we know about his character, being a serious health/fitness nut and a guy who is really concerned with showing teammates how to improve their health/fitness/commitment to the regime; do we as Leafs fans have an interest in this guy as a FA?

Assuming that he looks to sign a 4-5 year deal in the $5M to $6M range.

Too small/soft. Doesn't fit in the top 6 and is not a bottom 6 player. pass

Also don't want to give 5 million per year for 4 years to a declining 32 year old.

So your opinion is that we might have beat the best in the east, but we dont even have a chance at being 2nd best in the east?

Are you arguing with me or yourself?
