Orlov. I think Oates would finally understand every rule has an exception.

Think it doesnt work either way. If im the Oilers im not shipping Eberle off and the Caps cant give up on Carlson.

Trading one for the other is equal value but I wouldnt do it as either teams GM.

McD is an awesome Defensmen but as someone said above he is playing in front of not just a good goalie but a fantastic goalie and has 2 other really good D playing with him. Carlson has had inconsistent partners (excluding Alzner and Green has been injured for 2 years) and a goalie carousel for his career.

That's because he chronically underrates Eberle.

I would NOT do this deal as an Oiler fan... no way. Perhaps I over-rate Eberle, but to me he is a 80 to 90 point winger in his prime, which he is *just* entering. He is an absolute 1st line talent who does have intangibles (clutch goal scoring.... you will see this translate *someday* when we make the playoffs). I would be hesitant to trade him for a grittier top 6 player, but if I were, I would only accept the type of player where I could expect a 20-25 point drop-off. So from an 85 point guy down to a 55-60 point guy (think D. Brown). Brouwer had a great (short) season, but he's more of a consistent 40 point 20/20 guy.

It's just not enough for me.

...you know John Carlson was included in the deal too, right?

I think Carlson's a bit overrated, so I'd take this trade and run from a Caps POV.

Yea but for some reason gmgm doesn't like Eberle. He was right there to be had and he opted for a terrible pick in Angus.

Well the OP proposal is just as brutal, Eberle is going to be the best player in this deal by a landslide in a couple years.

Equal if they made the same $$$, as things are Carlson is more valuable. 35 point D who despite his (overblown) regular inconsistencies plays like a rock solid top pairing two-way defenseman in the playoffs.

Oh wow! Lets sell the farm for him then!

This has to be one of the stupidest proposals in a while with eberle in it.

He isn't getting traded. And I doubt that Washington trades Carlson

He scored 19 goals in 48 games last year, which is a 32G pace over a full 82 game season. So, yes, he can put 30-40 goals in the net.

Caps pass. Not the right fit for Washington. A small RW who will be stuck behind Ovechkin getting paid too much $$ for the Caps salary structure for the next 6 years. Eberle's a great player, but IMO, not worth the difference in production and increased salary over Brouwer. Giving up Carlson at his incredible contract number would be a mistake unless we're talking an elite top line forward coming the other way.

Good players on both sides, just not a good fit.

Let Brouwer hit the 25-goal plateau before we start calling him a perennial 30-40 goal scorer in the league.

Brouwer could probably be a perennial 25-30g scorer with RNH, assuming he gets good PP time, while being physical and defensive enough to help out the line in those regards. Hell, if Gagner can become a Ribeiro-caliber player or near that he could probably be a perennial 25 goal guy with Gagner.

So would Oates veto Patrick Kane getting the Conn Smythe because he got it playing the wrong wing?

I'm sure our cerebral player-coach Oates isn't that brick-headed, at least I'd hope not.

We're no closer to making the playoffs as things are, if you remember Carlson's play in the regular season. Smid-Orlov would be more solid than Erskine-Carlson. They're gonna get absolutely lit up this year in the new division if Oates keeps them together or puts Hillen in there.

You mean like Eberle has done once in his career?

Brouwer had more goals than Eberle last year FYI.
