And they're all significant roster players or will be eventually... What's the point of this thread? That our team is built on 1st round picks?

maybe it's we're bad at developing our own young talent. or that we suck at drafting.

Considering we had a pretty high 1st rounder trade percentage, maybe the scouts just mailed it in and never really did any scouting assuming it would be traded and just printed the list off tsn a few minutes before the draft and picked a name they liked. lol

a little of column A and a little of column B.

The Leafs missed the playoffs for 9 straight years and doing absolutely nothing and simply drafting in the position the NHL would have awarded the Leafs picks at, would have given them 9 X 1st rounders in the system < pick 15 (playoff teams).

Since when were these players cemented in the Flames line up?

Since when were Ashton, Biggs, Rielly, Gauthier, Percy, Colborne cemented into ours?

For all those people who complain Gauthier is nothing but a better skating Steckel, that's actually a compliment. Steckel would be a hell of a player if he was even just an ok skater.

Yea, we aren't exactly unique in having a ton of first rounders on our team. Players drafted in the first round are obviously the most likely to have long careers, so it's not surprising that any team would have a ton of them. Remember Sjostrom? 1st round pick. Steckel? 1st round pick. It pretty much doesn't matter.

We have 7 top 15 picks and 6 other first rounders outside the top 15. That's at least even, no?

looking at his physical attributes i can see why he went first round, but i think the desire is not there, hopefully it is with Gauthier

Even better, Fredrik Sjostrom. 11th overall to Phoenix in 2001.

It's amazing how so many players in our line-up were drafted to play to the potential they currently have whether or not they changed positions.

JVR - 1st line center
Kessel - Elite 1st line center
Lupul - Effective 2nd line winger
Kadri - 2nd line center with an outside chance of being a 1st line center
Kulemin - 2nd/3rd line winger
Bolland - Effective 3rd line center
McClement - 3rd/4th line center
Colborne - 3rd line center with outside shot of top 6 similar to Gauthier

Phaneuf - #2D with a outside shot at being a #1D
Franson - #4/5D
Gardiner - #2/3D
Liles/Gunnersson - You could argue if Rielly takes the #2D spot they are playing where they should be as #4-5D

The idea of the thread was to show players that were traded for on the roster, who were 1st rounders. Rask returned Raycroft, but Raycroft is not on the team, hence why he's not included.

Dion was traded for, not with a first round pick or a player who was drafted in the 1st round...hence he is on the list because he is on the team

Gauthier can develop an offensive game.

I love how people always high end offensive players and know they can all learn to play a bit of defense to get them by.

Gauthier is a smart kid and is going to learn ways to put points up on the board. If he's a solid positional hockey player with good size, he's going to be a lot better then Steckel.

So we're in agreement then?
