RIP Shawn Burr

Although I vaguely remember his time with the Sharks as he only played 2 short seasons with us, it sounds like he was a really wonderful person.

He did a lot of great fundraising work for Leukemia and was a fan favorite with the Wings.

Awful news. I remember him as the swami at sharks fest back around 1999. I remember he was working on a fan who apparently lived on the exact same street as me in palo alto lol

Jesus ... just terrible. I met Shawn at one of the Sharksfests way back when ... great guy and funny as hell. Too young ... way too young.

sharkvoice 9:02am via Web Shark Alumni forward Johan Garpenlov reacts to the passing of Shawn Burr aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/ho…

Edit: translated key paragraphs
Quote:
He was a hard-working forward who got the other team to take stupid penalties, plus he could make some goals ahead. He fought often, but tackled much. He also killed a lot of penalties, remember Garpenlöv.
Quote:
If you were in the same room with him, you knew it was going to be laughing and you knew it would not be quiet. He was definitely a guy that had a lot to say, who talked a lot, had some surreal one-liners. He was witty. A cruel guy to be with, says former teammate Kris Draper according to USA Today.

I played with Shawn Burr in 1986 on a Calder Cup Winning Adirondack team. He was a real good teammate and a good player. He will be missed

I remember him making some funny comment right after he came to the sharks poking fun at Scotty Bowman.

It was something along the lines of, gotta love bowman--an eccentric, crotchety old man than makes his line changes with a duck call.

IIRC his shining moment as a Shark was a 2-goal game against PHI. One was a breakaway goal and afterwards he was joking about how he was surprised that nobody caught up to him.

RIP
