Why on earth would we trade for his rights?

Let someone else empty their cupboards for him and we can just sign him in FA.

BTW, I am calling it now...whoever trades for Vanek isn't going to resign him...he is pulling a Parise and finishing his career at home.

These statements really piss me off. There is a very very good chance he signs in Minnesota (as is every Minnesotan hockey player) but saying that he won't resign anywhere he gets dealt to because he has ties to the Wild organization is retarded. Absolutely stupid. If someone offers him a 7 year 50 million dollar deal and Minny offers him 7 years at 44 Million then He will go to team A and not Minny. Like I said there is a very good chance that he signs in Minnesota, but anything can happen in the game of hockey, just a couple weeks ago one of the best players in the NHL retired at the age of 30, if you say you expected that than you're lying.

Vanek (50%)
for
Telegin+Burmistrov+1st
Wouldn't trade Vanek for Telegin and a 1st, which is what that package actually is, and especially not at 50% salary.

Once Heatley comes off the books Vanek will fit in nicely.

One of the reasons the Wild went out and got Pominville was due to his friendship with Vanek. Fletcher wanted to make playing for Minnesota an offer he couldn't refuse.

If I had to put money on where he lands I would say Minnesota.

Not a good deal given the uncertainty with Burmistrov. To me his rights are a throw in on a deal not a center piece.

Based on the ridiculousness here, I have to say I am Really looking forward to the coming disappointment of the Wild fans here. BFF/homecomings/etc rarely work out. Minnesota captures lightning in a bottle once and won't likely again.

I think it's possible, but it's obviously not as cut and dry as some people think it'll be. I don't think he'll sign an extension if he's traded though, he's going to test the market for sure. Where he ends up is another matter entirely.

Vanek lives here in the offseason, his wife is from here, everyone he trains with is here, his friend Pominville is here, supposedly he's told Lou Nanne he wants to play here (Lou Nanne is about a trusted insider here in Minnesota you will find, former North Star player and manager)... The Wild will have tons of cap space next offseason to make it happen.

The team and Pominville are already planning on negotiating an extension next month. Both sides have sounded optimistic on it getting done before camp in September.

Send a message via ICQ to Anksun
I'd give Galchenyuk 1 year of growing into his center position now and throw a bus load of money at Vanek next year to play on his right side. With Gionta 5M$ contract coming to an end, that would feasible i guess.

Vanek will be a rich rich man if he goes to free agency next year.

Said it before in another thread but I used to like wild fans before I've had to hear this statement over and over. No one knows what Thomas Vanek is going to do other than Thomas himself. Minnesota could be his #1 choice if he hits free agency or he could want to play for a legit contender (which the wild aren't now) or he could go to whoever offers him the most money (which may or may not be the wild). The only thing I know for sure now is if he hits free agency and goes elsewhere I'll be laughing my ass off

If he joins the Wild in a year, we will be. With him + our prospects joining...the Wild will be a contender.

Like I said in another thread I like Parise, Suter, Pominville, Vanek and Koivu but all 5 have accomplished absolutely nothing in their NHL careers. You may be a contender on paper but locking up $35 Million over the next 5+ years in aging perpetual losers isn't the best way to build a real contender.

You could say this about pretty much every NHL player at some point in their career. But that doesn't mean they won't ever win anything.

But I'm not going to say Vanek definitely will sign here next season. Are there reasons why he might? Yes. But that doesn't make it a guarantee. I think how the Wild do next season will play a part in it. Vanek wants to play for a contender, so the Wild have to show that's what they are.

I'm thinking Darcy holds on to him until the deadline and then sees where the Sabres are at. If we are looking decent (unlikely) and may make the playoffs, he will keep him and try to sign him to an extension. If we are looking crappy (more likely), he will trade him for a similar package to what we got for Pommer.

Once?

No, Parise is not the only one who's come home to Minnesota to play because he wants to.

Parise
Suter lives close by in Wisconsin
Ballard
Cullen
Langenbrunner wants to come home and play (though I don't want him at his age)

Though I agree that Wild fans should not get their hopes up too much. All the reasons others have listed are valid reasons why Vanek would want to come home and play here, but you're right in saying it doesn't always happen.
