Jets soon to be the youngest team in the league?

Looking at the most likely lineup for the Jets this year, we may end up being the youngest team in the league.

Making a few assumptions. since we don't know exactly what the roster will look like, but with Hainsey, Miettinen, Antropov and Wellwood out, and perhaps Trouba and Scheifele in, our average age would be about 25.6 yrs.

That would be more than half a year younger than the Blue Jackets who were the youngest team last year.

Lots of young talent!

Wow really? didn't even think about that. The team doesn't feel that young.

If we do end up being one of the you gets teams, we should be really happy going forward. Got some young leaders on this team.

It's due to a lack of aging vets. Imagine next year if Stuart(29), Thorburn(30), and Jokinen(34) don't stick around. We have lots of years to build around our core.

Thorburn's an old man on this team. Bet they'll be giving him a hard time if he sticks around.

That's why I've never understood the window talk that crops up around here from time to time.

I just realized I'm older than everyone except Jokinen. Wow. In fact the 6 oldest guys on the team aren't essential pieces at all. Buff and Enstrom are at 28, and Ladd is 27. Could easily have 8+ years out of those guys. Compare that to other cores around the league, and it's clear our window is wide open. I've never been convinced that a core has a "window" anyways.

Can't imagine the Jets being younger than the Oilers.

With Horcoff, Khabibulin, Whitney, and maybe Hemsky, gone - and Ryan Smyth is close to being gone, too - their average age will drop significantly. Especially with guys like Klefbom likely to make the team.

They're probably still a bit older. Lots of players that are 28-30

Ya, and adding 34 year old Ference doesn't help much... in more ways than just average age. .

They also added this offseason:

Ference (34)
Gordon (29)
Labarbera (33)
Grebeshkov (29)

Edit:
It seems others beat me to it, didn't mean to beat a dead horse.

And dropped Belanger (35), as well.

Oilers do have some aged vets, so it might be closer than I originally thought.

And, unless the Jets sign an older player, like an Antro, they really do have a young (25-28) core, as well.

Looking at only currently signed players (so no unsigned RFAs) Jets are 26th for 2013-14 in age.
The 4 younger teams are Nashville, Columbus, Colorado, Ottawa (in order to youngest)

Our core (25-28) are now entering what should be their most productive years.

In 3 or 4 years hopefully we have a good crop of young stars to go with this core. Put those two groups together and we have the makings of a great team.

Grebeshkov is back? I really liked that guy. He makes some mistakes but he's a highly skilled good passer. Wouldn't mind having him on the Jets (instant whipping boy )

25-28 tend to be the best years.

Anyone in the 28-30 range is likely to see a downturn.
