He hit a handful of his usual cold streaks during those 100 games.

Gagner scored close to 50 of those points in his hottest stretches as an Oiler. 19 points(including the 8 point night) in 10 games last year and 28 points in 28 games at the beginning of this year.

Gagner scored 26 points in the other 62 games.

Now go compare all the other .73 ppg players in the last 100 games and show me how much better they were at producing at that rate And Gagners 8 point games should not be used against him and how many games did Edmonton win when Gagner did not have points last season. Real tired of people cherry picking his stats to downplay him but omit any positives. And take away his 8 point night still a .70 player since then

He was a .43 ppg player for nearly 2/3rds of the 100 games you're trumpeting about.

Proclaiming him a .73 ppg player based on a 100 game sample size which includes the huge anomalies I listed in my last post is just dishonest.

edit: As for your edit, he's actually at .63 ppg since the 8 point game.

You can compare anyone and cherry pick when they score and don't and bring down ppg very weak argument. Did you know Gretzky averaged 0 ppg some games in his career And he has played 79 games since 8 point night 55 pts 79 games = .69.6 ppg .70

It's pretty easy to cherry pick a chunk of games with huge statistical anomalies to make a player look good too.

you take out his 8 point game he drops from .73 to.70 and I did not cherry pick 100 games a poster on Oilers forum asked what his production was last 100 games if I was to cherry pick I would of went last 80 games included just the 8 point one as the starting point than his ppg would be .79 To try and make him look better as ones who try to discredit him calculate him on his worst stretches:And Omit his 8 point game

It's really not unheard of for a player to value themselves high, in hopes of getting top dollar. gagner's argument is that he produces as well as a lot of guys making 5.5m so that's what he's asking for. He won't get it, but I can;t blame the guy for wanting what he deserves. Asking for top dollar ensured that he gets what he deserves (lower than 5.5). I think he will end up getting 4.750-ish
So was Weber's argument basically that he is without equal?

Though the Weber thing is another reason, why people need to give it a rest with the Tavaras and other steal contracts. If I remember correctly that ruling explicitely cited Duncan Keith as his comparable and then went on to award Weber an almost 2m higher cap hit. They are going to adjuct for cap cheating and cap inflation, they so will.

Keith was getting paid 8 million at the time despite his cap hit of 5.5. That's why Weber was awarded 7.5 million.

I'm sure an arbitrator takes into account the rise of the cap but I doubt it plays that much of a significant role. Probably most comparable players signed relatively recent contracts so the rise of the cap is negligible.

Except Bozak signed long term at 4.2 and is way more valuable to the Leafs than Gagner is to Edmonton. (Notice I didnt say better player, although Bozak has more all around game than Gagner).
