Plus I thought Gagner was an amazing player worth Kessel, Phaneuf, and 1st round picks! so $5.5 should be a steal..no?!

The player has asked for $5,5 the clubs has probably offered something WAY lower and the arbitrator will decide how much he'll get paid (which will end up in the middle).

If this thing actually ends up in arbitration expect $4-$4.25 on a 1-year deal.

arbitration uses actual contracts, not imaginary ones
And then the other side gives 30 other contracts for players who are similar to Gagner.

So sick of people looking at every contract and going hahaha Tavares makes this.

It should be an infraction when his contract is compared to others.

Gagner's not doing anything wrong; this is how arbitration works...

Let's stop the Gagner crucifixion and realize that this is how arbitration in the NHL works. Oilers offered $3.5, Gagner offered $5.5.

That Edmonton organisation is full of leaks. This shouldn't have made it to the press.

Bozak was signed as a UFA, not a RFA.

Wasn't couple years ago... Tommy Salo when he was in NYI

Should have asked for more....Eberle is making $6m, Sam outscored him and was the best C on the team.

Why Edmonton felt it was smart to overpay Eberle and try and get away with not paying the rest of their forwards market value, I will never understand.

There basically just telling him that their fine with him walking away next summer....who's gonna take over that spot?

The worst part is they offered David Clarkson 7years at $6m for a 29 year old with two good years.

Not sure where the Bozak complaining is coming from either... I'd gladly give Gagner that contract

Yeah, that was during Mike Milbury's reign of terror. He made Salo cry in the arbitration hearing. I don't know how bad MacT is, but he can't be as bad as the Evil One.

But at the time Voracek signed it, he had pretty similar numbers to Gagner's right now.

Lost all credibility when he said Gagner is our best 2C since Messier

Jimmy Carson had 100 pts for us in 88-89, good for 9th in league scoring (unless he's considering Messier as being the 2C behind Carson which would be more laughable).

Jason Arnott.

Jarret Stoll put up 68 points in 82 games, as well as another 10 in the playoffs on a team one win away from a cup. And he can actually win a face off.

Gagner's game grew last year, there's no disputing that, but I don't want to pay this guy more than 4.75 per. 4.75x4 seems like a proper number. Still be a 27 yr old next time UFA status comes around and will have 4 seasons to establish himself with wingers like Hall, Yakupov, Eberle and Perron.

If this goes to arbitration, I want to trade him immediately. Lets see him put up numbers with some lesser talent on his wings and demand 5.5 in UFA.

Sam isn't the best C on the team, The Nuge is. If you want to simply judge by points in a 48 game season where Hopkins played with a bum shoulder, then do so. I'm going to factor in what the player looks like on the ice, and Nuge reads the play better, plays more physical, is a better playmaker, better along the boards, better skater and better defensively.

Eberle got paid 6 mil because he finished 16th in league scoring, went to the All-Star game, and was arguably our best player that year (I still think it was The Nuge). Gagner was coming off his usual 45ish pt season where every other aspect of his game was adequate or sub par. Even this year, Sam out scored Eberle by 1 point and Eberle played a third of the season with a broken finger. Look at Eberle's final 17 games when he began to look comfortable again - 9 goals, 17pts and a +5. Sam is not in the same class as Eberle, so don't even think of using him as an example to justify Gagner's contract demands.

IS Arbitration in the NHL where the arbitrator can decide a middle amount between the 2 suggestions or he has to pick either one or the other amount?

Don't think he is worth 5.5 million, but his stats last year over 82 games would be 65 points. 4.5 million on a 3 year term makes a lot of sense.
