Couturier, who is entering the final year of his entry level contract, inked a new deal with an annual cap hit of $1.75 million in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

Good price. Very good chance he'll be a steal by the second year.

Good deal. Couturier had a down year offensively, but that contract should work out to be a bargain.

Considering what Boyd Gordon just signed for (AKA the index price of third line checkers on the open market), it's a steal already.

Good price. Let the kid go out there and prove himself. Then he can get a bigger deal in a couple of years.

Going to be hard to karma-offer sheet the Flyers if there's no one left to sign.

wait! this is BS!

I thought Nashville was supposed to sign this guy to an offer sheet next summer in retaliation for the Flyers signing Weber to one last summer?

He's better than a third line checker too.

This contract is going to look amazing after next year. Expect 45-50 points from him this year if given some PP time.

Did Couturier really just want to feel secure with a new contract or does he think he won't improve having signed a contract this early?

Him being signed at a lower amount right now sets him up for a bigger deal later on. Also, it keeps him from currently outpricing himself now while there's some other contracts on the books

Doesn't he have 1 more year at an ELC? So next year (ELC) then next 2 years at $1.75 AAV then RFA again, correct?

Some curious timing here..I know its not a great a idea to negotiate mid-season or in the playoffs so this looks like Homer is worried other teams will poach his RFAs. Its not like he's in a particularly great cap situation either.

Probably but not at the price where it would have been impossible for the Flyers to match.

Couturier isn't worth much more than ~1.75M right now. Good deal for both sides.
