Not this again... Devils in financial trouble?

First, considering the source don't know how accurate or truthful it is, however think it's worth some discussion I guess...

I would be down with another minority owner to give some extra juice for spending.

Not sure about the merits of the rest of this though.

I always trust financial news from unnamed sources cited by questionable sources.

Put your name on it or it's just gossip.

I hope the fact that the rock only has 27 non hockey events vs Barclays 51 isn't true, if anyone could post how many events the rock has had over the year it would be great just to compare & see if Brooklyn is steeling our money.

Allow me to summarize approximately 90% of the responses that will appear in this tread.

well for one, it says the NHL "loaned" us money. that is not true. you don't loan someone money that they already have coming to them anyways.

We can defend the Devils/Bash the Post as much as we want... but there is definitely no reason for the Post to be so adamant about this for over a year if everything is peachy in Newark. I don't like JVB's background or the company he came from and made all of his money at. If he cannot commit 100% financially to the product on the ice then get him out. Let the Canadian billionaire buy the team. They won't be moved... the arena is a cash cow and the team is successful.

Maybe it's time for JVB to go.

Not that I think everything is clean in Newark, but there definitely is a reason for a news place to rile up as much interest as possible.

Not sure what Lehman has anything to do with this or his previous tenure there.

Canadian billionaire brothers buying this team and not moving them sounds like a pipedream.

Eh the Lehman thing might not have anything to do with this... My first cousin is very close with one of his kids.. and I just am not a big fan of his from what I've heard about him.

The Devils are not in trouble like Atlanta and Phoenix. They have a good TV deal, are in a decent location (mass transit wise), attract fans to the building, and have a great arena. I doubt the NHL would let anyone buy the team that was going to move them.

Yeah man, I interned and worked in the printed news business for a few years. If I write a story that is proven false just once I get fired... let alone not shut up about it for over a year.

This is true. There's no "repayment" to the league upcoming so far as anyone's previously heard. It was an advance on money that the Devils would have received later, and instead received earlier.

I would not mind a new owner in the slightest, or a new co-owner. I'd like to not have to worry about this anymore.

not really. all you have to do is cite "anonymous sources" like he did to cover his ass.

When you receive a stream of money that you're entitled to earlier than the record date that that money is due to be paid out = loan. I dont see anything in the article that says the Devils dont have to repay the NHL on the advance without interest.

The NHL is acting like a benevolent parent that feels sorry for a child.
