Gunnarsson vs. Franson- If you could only keep 1

Hopefully Nonis will be able to get both these guys locked up, but I do think it is a possibility that Nonis will have to move one of them due to a lack of cap space.

If you could only keep 1, who would you keep?

Gunnarsson without thinking twice. One of our few defensemen who are reliable at playing DEFENSE.

Franson can be replaced by Gardiner, Phaneuf and Rielly's production

Gunnarson. Hes a better player, and I feel like the return for trading Franson would be greater

Take time machine back to July 5th, don't sign Clarkson. Sign Franson, and Gunnar.

I say franson for his potential to improve even though gunnarsson is the better player defensively

I don't quite understand the lovefest for Gunnarsson. Is he a good player, sure. But then again, he makes a lot of dumb plays, he's not physical, not an offensive threat by any means, not really a shut down guy either as he's easily overpowered.

I don't understand.

Of the two, the only one to bring something tangible to the table is Franson. And he also has a much higher up-side with his size if he ever decides to play like he should.

I like Franson, but Gunnarsson has been a + player every pro year but one, and has faced some of the highest quality of competition. He is #11th in the league amongst D-men playing 30GP+ last season.

Cody Franson, on the other hand, has been insulated, 128th in the league in the list, with a negative corsi rel qoc.

Gunnar is the better player.

Gunnarson has spent about two years playing top 2-3 defensive minutes on this team.

Franson has spent about 2-3 weeks playing those types of minutes.

Franson clearly has better offence and is a year younger. But we have plenty of offence from the blueline (Phaneuf, Gardiner, Liles, + Rielly coming up), whereas Gunnarson is our most consistent/reliable defenceman defensively.

Gunnar is easily the better player. He plays against much, much tougher competition and is able to hold his own.

Franson when played against other teams top 6 players looked more like komiserek.

If the return on Franson is greater, does that not tell us he is the superior player?

Gunnar. He plays some of the toughest minutes and does it well.

To the guy asking why Franson would have more value?
Because he's a offensive guy that's 6'5" tall. Teams that need offensive dmen will pay big for them, whereas we have an abundance of them coming.

You keep Franson if you are looking for an offensive d-man.
You keep Gunnarsson if you are looking for a reliable defensive d-man.

They are less than a year apart in age, so at their age there really is no difference. If you're talking about kids that are 17-18 certainly age may play a part, but not when we're talking full grown men. Neither are prospects, they are veteran professional players.

I think Percy will replace Gunnar in a year or two, so I would rather keep Franson's offence

Thus confirming his post. He is the only right handed NHL defenseman the team has.

Gardiner or Liles could replace Franson's offense today.

Your approach is to hope Percy can become a NHL player.

Why not keep the known, and then hope the 5th. overall pick can deliver what he was drafted for, rather than hoping a long shot can deliver?

There still there.

Won't surprise me one bit if Granberg is playing Montreal on Oct 1st.
