Penguins Mt Rushmore?

If you had to pick just 4 Penguins players to represent the team and made them to who they are,who would you pick? My four are in no order
Mario Lemieux, Pierre LaRouche, Jamomir Jagr, Sidney Crosby
Yeah I know the sid pick may be a little early but if it was not for sid this team would be in Kansas city right now.

I love Lucky as much as anybody, but he just doesn't have enough tenure as a Penguin to be on that list, imo.

He definitely had the talent and panache, but agree he wasn't here long enough, and wasn't even on the first line for much of his tenure. I'd sculpt Pronovost, Francis, or Kehoe up there before Lucky Pierre.

One of the worst trades in Penguins history. Trading Larouche.

i find the concept too limiting. would rather talk about a 'ring of honor'

edit: there is actually a Trib Total Media Penguins’ All-Time Team and i've posted about it:

Mark Recchi and Dr. Charles “Chip” Burke will be named to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ All-Time Team in a ceremony before Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game against the Montreal Canadiens at CONSOL Energy Center.
Quote:
Recchi becomes the 16th player named to the Trib Total Media Penguins’ All-Time Team, joining Lemieux, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens, Tom Barrasso, Rick Kehoe, Jean Pronovost, Larry Murphy, Ulf Samuelsson, Syl Apps, Joe Mullen, Dave Burrows, Les Binkley and Pierre Larouche. Five other players are honorable mention selections – Randy Carlyle, Rick Tocchet, Martin Straka, Ron Stackhouse and Lowell MacDonald.

Burke will be inducted as a “builder,” joining Scotty Bowman, Herb Brooks, Ed DeBartolo Sr., Bob Johnson, Eddie Johnston, Craig Patrick, John Barbero, A.T. Caggiano, Elaine Heufelder, Mike Lange, Vince Lascheid, Jack Riley and Frank Scuilli.

not a bad list. not sure why the 'honorable mention selections' aren't outright members of the 'All-Time List'

It always seemed that Montreal would extract him from the Pens one way or another. Same with Denny Herron.

Now, if we could find one goalie in almost 50 years to put on Mt. Pensmore . . . .

Honestly...Malkin has done more than anyone else and the first three are just too obvious to ignore. It makes for a boring one, but it would be Lemieux, Jagr (covered in graffiti and a popular place for locals to let their dogs defecate), Crosby, & Malkin.

Pronovost & Kehoe have the games played to at least make it interesting, but neither were truly elite and Malkin is already a season away from surpassing Francis on the games played list (with 53 fewer points). Let's put it this way - Kehoe is fourth in team history with 636 points (in 722 games), Geno has 560 in 458 and a Conn Smythe in a less offensive era.

If Geno isn't on this theoretical monument now then he would be next year...but that Conn Smythe is really hard to ignore.

Could definitely see Geno up there, especially with another good season or two under his belt, but a broader representation of franchise history might be more interesting.

If we're going there then it's Kehoe or Pronovost to represent the early teams.

I know when Puck Daddy did that feature people were arguing over if it should be four players that give a broad representation of the franchise or just the four best players...personally I'd go with the four best as long as they've played there long enough while only being eligible to be represented once. Francis, for instance, would go on Carolina/Hartford's long before ours because he's identified more with that franchise than ours, even if his best years were as a Penguin.

Imaginary rules for imaginary games are fun to make up.

My rules would be the best players to wear the unis BUT they had to have their best years in that uni/should be the main team associated with that player.

Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin.

If you're going in that direction, then you somehow have to get EJ's mug up there. Or perhaps statuettes of him for sale at the gift shop.

Kunitz, Crosby, Dupuis. Don't need a 4th, its already the best Mount Rushmore in the league.

This is difficult.

I was born in 1983, so it's difficult more to nominate guys pre 1990's.

Ron Francis would be a good candidate, but he has been with Hartford/Carolina longer than pittsburgh.

I loved guys like Recchi, Tocchet, Stevens, Murphy, Coffey, Straka etc but if I had to pick 4 guys, I have to go with 71, 87, 68 and 66

Lemieux, Jagr, Pronovost, Kehoe

Hell, honestly, we need a Penguins Crazy Horse of just Lemieux

mine too, but i wouldn't want the graffiti on Jagr, too many childhood memories for me to hate him.

It should just be 4 different heads of Mario throughout his career in that time period.

Him as a rookie, 1st cup, 2nd cup, and 3rd cup as an owner.

No other person need apply when it comes to the penguins.

Anyone who chisels Jagr's mug onto a mountainside deserves a trip to the loony bin. Unless of course, this thread is just another attempt to disguise the age-old-and-never-settled question: "who are the greatest Pens of all time?"

I think the idea is the 4 guys that represent the franchise the best. And there's no doubt Jagr makes the list.

There is definitely doubt, and it gets expressed by lots of fans every year.

there's a difference between disliking someone and not thinking he's one of the most important figures in the franchise's history. I can understand the former. The latter is just incorrect.
