how are there not MSL trade threads on HF yet? his GM snubbed him from Olympic squad, so must mean he should get traded by HF standards, right?

What team Canada left off their roster would make a great NHL team.

Grats to Nash. Not really sold on Benn and Carter can suck it; but whatever.

Indeed. If the dude didn't score another point for almost another 4 seasons; he would still have averaged a PPG over his career. That is sick.

Would have loved to have had him for a rental for a year. Oh well.

Officially on board for the Team Russia men's hockey bandwagon. Its not like 1980 and these are amateurs.

It must be your computer. I can type "Jeff Carter" and the obscenity filter doesn't seem to catch it.

Selänne will be the second ice hockey player ever to have played in 6 Olympics. The first one is another Finnish legend Raimo Helminen. Helminen btw holds the record for most international games played at 331 games.

Looks to me that only the US constructed their team the traditional line way. Don't see many grinders/checkers/energy guys on Canada's roster. Of course they are Canadian so they probably do all of those things.

Team Russia usually is full of entitled jerks and have no team game. If that changes I'd be glad to root for them.

How in the world did that asshat Carter make the team and Martin St. Louis did not? Martin St. Louis can lead the league in scoring over and over again and no one will give him a shot on the Olympic team. He's been "too old and small" for a long time. He's still outscoring Carter and they don't put him on the team.

I don't get the Kunitz pick...or Nash for that matter...Kunitz is mediocre w/o Crysby and Nash has been hurt...

you know what i mean...he's not (IMO) an Olympic caliber a player, like some of the others...he's a good player...but I would have personally chose MSL or Couture over him...

as a friend said though, short tourney, instant chemistry means something...so thus he makes the team...i guess

j/k I wouldn't have picked him either, most likely. That MSL didn't make the team is... bad.

I can't root for Canada, I don't really have an explanation, I just can't.

USA
CZR
SWE

in that order. Though the last 2 Olympics the Swiss team has been great to watch.

Would have certainly taken St. Louis ahead of Marleau ... especially on the big ice surface.

Other than that, I can't really argue with the decisions team Canada made ... looks like a legit contender, as usual. Just look at their options down the middle

I think the big ice is an even better reason to go with Martin St. Louis. This is from a recent piece by Jason Bourne:

So what’s different on the big ice:

First off, the hockey is a lot more possession-based.

There’s a huge misconception that because there’s more ice, you need faster players. I think you need better decision-makers with the puck.

I guess this quote supports my recent statement that Nikitin is a good decision maker and smart hockey player. That's why he's on the team ahead of a hundreds Russian defensemen that skate better than him. Nikitin's definitely not someone who you would call a good skater. At the highest, not at the highschool level.
Some people didn't buy it, but looks like Russian NT coach also high on Nikitin's decision making ability.

Canada hasn't won an Olympics gold outside of North America since 1952. And those 1998 and 2006 teams were also stacked, but couldn't get any medal.
Peter Nedved has played at the Olympics only once, in 1994 for Canada. This year he will play for Czechs.

This is a complete tire fire. Richards seems to have handled this all wrong. He heard it from TV?!

I still think JJ earns a spot over Fowler and Faulk, but that's just me. Dude goes up against the best players every night.
