Ill edit this post as we find out more. Would be good to get info on the starting goalies, and the primary backups at least. So far we have the following goalies confirmed:

Small (NHL regulation) pads:

Rask
Bobrovsky
Quick

Would I be wrong in assuming that since Goalies are fierce creatures of habit and superstition, that any NHL goalie would just stick with their small sized pads over changing to new equipment for such a short tournament?

I am pretty sure Quick will be using small pads as he was using them before they were necessary.

No, I wouldn't say that's wrong at all. Very good goalies, that you tend to see at this level of play, aren't just blocking goalies usually, they have athleticism and reflex in their game and bigger pads aren't always a help to their movement...like Brodeur in his prime...

Oversized pads, generally, cover holes in faulty (whether by design or not) technique or augment a "blocking" style...an example of the latter is Jean-Sebastien Giguere...an example of the former might be Garth Snow or Peter Skudra...

On an Avs telecast, McNab said Varly will use the smaller pads.

Miller is wearing his NHL pads, taped up to be red, white, and blue.

Are not pads size based on the height of the goalie? The taller the goalie the taller the pads.

I can't imagine this will be an issue at all except for one of the teams like Austria or Latvia who might be wearing pads bigger then the NHL regulations.

This, Quick's pads have not changed, they were already within the new rules.

Rask, Lehtonen or Niemi will use NHL pads (surprise). Also, Finland's goalie coach Ari Moisanen says the bigger size would be more of "a cosmetic foolery".

In the other thread (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1573787) some insisted that e.g. Lundqvist will use bigger ones, he is not using...
