This is assuming Liles is on our team come fall! If he is off the books, Mio!

OK anyways, Gunnarsson at 3.15 is still fine, i could see kadri getting a PK esque bridge and franson getting 4, that fits every1 in under the cap

The Leafs have a bit more space then that. There are a few guys counting against the cap right now that will be with the marlies when the season starts.

Fair deal for what Gunnar does and the game he plays. Happy to have him locked down. Now the other two big ones and away we go.

I thought Hamonic's deal on free agent frenzy day was the best signing. I expected Alzner to get the same. Gunnarsson is really good in his role, but he is below both guys, so I didn't expect him to crack $3 million. It's only slightly high at worst for a guy that plays his role perfectly.

Leafs fans should have no issue with it and the [poster] claiming to be fans of both our franchises already admitted he didn't watch him play so...

We have a little more then that in actuality as stated earlier.

You get Franson locked in for 3.5 and Fraser likely gets 1.2 and Kadri will be the most interesting given the season he had, it was a shortened season though so that could play a little bit in the Leafs favor. I don't think he'll get as much as some people have been expecting, I'm guessing it'll be a 2 year deal around 3.5 - 3.75. From there the Leafs move Liles to team looking for a puck mover for a mid or late pick and run with..

Phanuef - Gardiner
Franson - Gunnarsson
Fraser - ???

The 6th spot left open for whoever steps up in camp options being Granberg, Riley, Blacker, Finn, Percy and Holzer. If you want the most likely scenario it'll be Holzer and Granberg fighting to see is the 6th and who is the 7th

Hamonic just came off his ELC, and just entered his 2nd contract, with 4 more years until he became a UFA.

Gunnarsson is coming off his 2nd contract, onto his 3rd contract, and only 1 more year of control before being a UFA.

They are not comparables.

Alzner is a better comparable, as a similar style dman, with similar experience, and just 2yrs younger. Alzner's numbers across the board are just slightly inferior to Gunnar's, though, and Alzner has two years left before becoming UFA, Gunnar only one, so it's not a surprise that Gunnar got a tad more.

Leafs still really need to move Liles.

Moving Liles would give them all the room they needed to sign Kadri, Franson, Fraser, and fill out the extra forward spot(s).

Better than the Garrison one. Nick Schultz on the Wild was an exceptional defensive dman....not his fault he got traded to the Oilers.

Dion Phaneuf - Vet guy
Morgan Reilly - Most top end potential imo, will make the team next year if things go well.
Jake gardiner - Top 2 potential, Balanced player.
Carl Gunnarsson - Top 4 guy (from leaf fans).
Cody Franson - Solid potential, 5th guy, but could be top 4 in the future.
You can't argue Garrison is a number 2 because of his shot, when he spent some time in the bottom pairing and then call Franson a 5th guy because he played in the 5th spot for a chunk of the season.

We also have:
Liles - 3rd/4th D if utilized correctly
Holzer - 5th/6th D
Fraser - 6th D

Bottom pairing D contribute to Depth just as much as Top 4 D

Anyways, I wanted Gunnarrson to make 2.9m for 4 years, happy with 3.15m for 3 years. Fair money for a consistent minute eater. This gives us 3 years to find a #2D.

Personally I love it because in an ideal world Gunnar would be a #3 but he can play on that first pairing with Phaneuf effectively. He may not be an ideal top pairing choice but he is sure as hell worth every penny at 3.15 cap hit.

great deal, gunner is vital to our blueline success. Plus gives us more than enough cash to get kadri, franson & fraser done.

kadri will be a bridge deal, and it should fall anywhere between 2.2-2.9 max a year,
Franson 3.5 a year max,

Fraser, 800-1.1 mil a year max.

JMO.

Luc was so wrong about Gunnar at the start of the thread, it's been funny to read the whole thing.

I was thinking max he would get is 3.5 so I'm content with the 3.15 for 3 years. Reliable and underrated.

Liles has to be on the way out now, he is fully redundant and we don't need his cap hit on our books.

Could also use that $2M in combined buyout cap, and the 500k we have retained, but at least that is 2.5M we have waiting for us next offseason

Good for both sides. Alzner's deal eats up less UFA years than Gunnarsson's, ergo the higher cap hit.

3.15, solid deal for Gunnar. Keeps it simple and consistent,. 3 year term for a player who knows he can make even more in the future.

Great signing.

And deservedly so, I think Franson will get 3.8-4, on a 3 year term. Liles money.

Speaking of which, I wonder where JML fits in...
