good article John. only point I would argue is Mathieu Garon. Not sure if he would be included in a prospect article. But still a good read.

You're right! I don't know what I was thinking there.

Good article, John! You probably included Garon because the Goodenow inside you wanted to make sure your favorite players were properly represented

Parros has really progressed over the last two years, but he still has a ways to go with his skating.

Nice job, John. Wow, pretty harsh on Grebs! He did make the all-star team, you know!

As always, great article John! Nice point about Grebs, too. Coincidentally, I had the same sort of thoughts just last week.

Should Grebeshkov be listed as our #1 prospect?

I'd vote no. I'd put him after Tukonen, which would place Grebs 5th or 6th, not sure which.

Good job John.

About Grebs, he's still young.
If one year from now, we'll be here saying exactly the same things about him, I'd start to have heavy doubts about him. But now, it's just too early. It wasn't the next Lidstrom before this season, it's not the next Rob Cowie a few months later.

At least not yet...

Time will tell.

Ah, and about Ryan our friends in Manchester weren't that high on him.
I remember KB posted something like "the Kings wasted a NHL contract for him"...
But after all, it was his 1st pro season, so IMO it has been decent year for Matt.

Think Jerred Smithson but smaller and not as good but probably will develop to somewhere around Smithson's level....

I was really high on Ryan and basically watched him fall-off to a point where he would have probably been better off in Reading. He's filling a slot until Boyle and Murray are in Manchester. Which reminds me, the Kings should probably add some depth at center. They've got no NHL capable defensive/checking centers in the system at this point. They qualified Kelly at the end of last season so maybe he'll be back? I know many folks aren't high on Kelly but he's the better alternative to what you would get with Ryan and Steckel at this point...

Nice work John! I may have to cut and paste some of the article into the profiles for the 2004-05 updates in the profiles.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing us add some center prospects in the next draft.

Grebs should be no where near the #1 slot in the Kings prospect list. Hopefully this is updated soon.

Hopefully Steckel improves a bunch next season and Karlsson comes over or the 2001 draft review is going to be brutal

I think Steckel is going to do nothing but improve...I just really hope Jens wakes up and get's his ass over here.

Steckel is a hard worker. If he puts in the same effort in the offseason as he did this season to improve his game hes gonna be pretty good for the Monarchs next season.

A year ago had you said that, I would've laughed in your face, now, now it seems like it's true.

yeah exactly. He is turning himself into a pretty good player. Just goes to show you if you work hard enough good things happen.

It also goes to show what a GOOD developmental system will do. In the old days the Kings would have had three choices with Steckel: play him on the Kings; play him in Phoenix/Springfield; don't sign him and let him sign with any minor team he wants...and likely lose him.

Instead, the Kings were able to get him under contract (to the Monarchs) and when he looked like he wasn't working hard enough they were able to send him to Reading to motivate him. This simply couldn't have been done 5+ yrs ago.

Now it looks like it has worked, at least to some degree and I give high marks to Steckel himself, the Monarchs and the Kings.

Albi is correct... as a charter season ticket holder in Manchester, Ryan has shown a sincere interest in play this year. He really has "stepped to the line" in all avenues. I think it would be safe to say he has great potential.

You can't be serious. Matt Ryan was out of position, or missed his assignment WAY too many times for me. Sure, he has wheels, but he just doesn't seem to "get it"..
