Looks like the Dalpe acquisition punched Horvat's ticket.

So who the heck is playing forward while both Clarkson and McClaren are out?

Ashton takes one spot and maybe McClaren has been cleared?

Or am I missing some one?
I believe the Leafs are likely to start with 11 forwards and 7 defencemen dressed.

Avalanche assign Guillaume Desbiens (pending waivers), Sami Aitokallio and Brad Malone to the AHL.

That's the Swedish League, no?

Sounds like Chicago wants him out of te organization. The Jets did the same thing to Aliu.

Yup, hit the 'A' next to the 'S' by accident. It could be that Beach had an offer to go to Sweden this summer when he was an RFA and reached a deal with Chicago where he would come into camp, try to make the team and if he didn't, they would re-assign him.

If they are really going to go with 11 forwards, they probably won't follow through with 7D, and instead do 6. That way they'll have less than 20 players dressed for their first game, and can apply for Emergency Player Recall and save ~$600K through that recall player until Clarkson returns.

After clearing waivers, Chris Porter has been assigned to Chicago of the AHL (Man is it weird to talk about St. Louis sending players anywhere other than Peoria!).

Sadly I knew it was coming for Nyquist as he is the only forward with options in our mess of forwards. He will be back.

Back-to-back PPG seasons for Nyquist in the AHL, what exactly does he have left to learn down there?

Are they really still putting Abdelkader in the top-six instead of Nyquist?

He'll be back. Wings have Darren Helm going on LTIR, others possibly onto IR, it wouldn't surprise me if Nyquist is back by the Red Wings 1st or 2nd game of the season.

Mrazek is the more surprising one, to me, as I didn't think Gustavsson was healthy.

Florida has sent Colby Robak (who just cleared waivers) to the AHL, Joey Crabb (who also cleared waivers) remains with the team.

They've got Coreau up instead. He gives them more cap room with LTIR.

What?! Not even a cap move either as Ottawa is far from it.

Based on their practice lines today, it appears Tatar will be a scratch for the Red Wings. It's absolutely unbelievable to me that they are preferring these aging mediocre vets to their talented youth, but as a division rival I'm not complaining.

How long have you been watching the Wings now? They've always seemed to have this weird thing about moving young players onto the NHL roster. It's as if they're stuck with a cattle prod whenever they do it.

Oh I know how they roll. But this is taking it to the extreme with Nyquist and Tatar not playing in their lineup to start while Clearly, Samuelsson and Bertuzzi will be.

So, from what I've been able to ascertain

#1. Stephane DaCosta and J.G. Pageau had standout camps/exhibition seasons.
#2. The play of the above two, both centers, forced the Sens to move some centers onto the wing.
#3. Zibanejad is waiver exempt.

Now, you might say "Ok, make sense, but why is Ottawa carrying 22 players instead of 23?"

#4. Ottawa's owner is already saying the team is over budge for this season.
#5. Mika Zibanejad could earn up to $1.7 million if he hit his bonuses in the NHL this season.
#6. Mika Zibanejad could earn up to $70,000 in the AHL this season.

If I was an Ottawa fan, I'd be a little bit concerned that we're going to see some penny-pinching this season.

Considering they're already near the bottom of the league in terms of salary, that is a little worrying.

I wonder if they'd try to move a guy like Matt Kassian.
