‘Major housecleaning’ looms as Leiweke overhauls MLSE

Quote:
The next stage in the overhaul of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. is expected to claim several top executives, as president and chief executive officer Tim Leiweke shakes up the senior ranks of the organization, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The changes could be announced as early as Wednesday, and would follow the firing of Toronto Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo and several bold pronouncements by Mr. Leiweke – including a planned Stanley Cup parade route.
Very interesting and significant, IMO.

Source tells me there's a "very big chance" Wayne Gretzky will become a top executive in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. #Leafs
Interesting.

Couldn't hurt having the great one as part of the call/visit package in trying to lure free agents to Toronto.

Also, this means Paulina's moving here too right?

Didn't Gretzky convince J. Schultz to sign in Edmonton or was that just a rumour? Either way, couldn't hurt to have The Great One calling young players and FA's and going on about how great of a city and hockey culture Toronto has.

Would love to see Gretzky with the Leafs in any type of front office capacity.

The first person I thought of when I heard about this on the Fan590 this morning was Anselmi.

"Hey man, I know you really wanted to stay in (insert city here) but we just want you to fly out to Toronto for a day, Mr. Gretzky says he'd love to take you around the city." I mean come on, what player in their right mind wouldn't want to meet and talk to the great one? Great move

Exactly. I don't care if he's hired on just as a figurehead. Wayne not only still has clout in the NHL, but he also garners tremendous respect amongst all of the players as well. Having him in an executive role at MLSE is a helluva alot better than NOT having him at all imo.

Here is the story about the restructuring on TSN:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=428339

I don't know who the "several" MLSE executives that departed included.

Gretzky, doubt it. Or I should say I'll believe it when I see it. Don't trust Berger for any legitimate information.

Wonder who they're talking about in the organization tree.

I don't like Berger either (after calling Leaf fans "clapping seals" a few yrs ago) but you can't discredit a guy who was the Leafs beat reporter for 20+ years just because he was let go. He still has connections from within MLSE, and I would trust his sources over 95% of the other dumbass reporters in this city who just write sensationalistic headlines and articles just to gain readership.

Would be pretty cool if Gretzky was somehow involved with the organization.

adding Gretzky woulda be very cool.

shuffling suits is useless. the business itself is ultra successful. the problem is the product on the field. that needs to be improved. Still waiting for the moves that will improve that.

team canada

multiple cups as a player

greatest player of all time

probably can add something positive to a hockey club.

using phoenix against him is like complaining that someone can't teach a dog to drive a car.

Hopefully the new hockey pres keeps Nonis around until he proves incapable of running this hockey team. So far I haven't seen any evidence of that.

Maybe Leiweke has the Midas Touch. Hope it works out better than it did for King Midas.

Gretzky will be Toronto Maple Leaf president. Nonis will report to him. Gretzky will report directly to Lieweke as MLSE CEO.
