A Rangers Fan leaving New York

After living in our beloved New York for 23 years, this Rangers fan will be moving to South Carolina in June. I never thought I'd leave New York, but I also never thought I'd Zucc in a Rangers uniform again, so goes to show how good my anticipation is.

I'd like to first off thank this forum for even existing. Hockey is the only sport I follow, and I have few people with whom I can discuss it constantly. This forum is something of a godsend, and I anticipate it will be even more so when I'm down below the Mason-Dixon.

Second, to any and all Rangers fans outside the tristate, I'm asking for advice. Is center ice worth it, or is streaming better? How are games at Raleigh? Worth a considerable drive? Anything a lifelong New Yorker can do to not look like My Cousin Vinny in the south? And on the off chance, would anyone here know of a hockey bar in or around Horry County?

I imagine a mod will eventually lock this and tell folks to PM me, but I'd appreciate it if the thread was allowed to stay open for some time, as a brief discussion between multiple posters would be more helpful than half a dozen PMs telling me the same things.

Thanks again, HFNYR

Thanks Z.

How's the picture on Stremo? I don't require super amazing HD, but I'd be unhappy with pixelated rangers.

streamos great! If on days when it's not there or you'd like to watch other games, there are other stream sites.

Sometimes Streamo freezes(happened to me twice this season) and can sometimes be a few seconds behind the play. The quality on it is better than my HD Tv though. lol.

And there are TONS of backups if Streamo is not working.

I've had Center Ice before. I love it. I think it's worth the money fore sure.

Personally, I don't enjoy watching live games on my computer. It's so much more satisfying and usually more comfortable on TV. If you have a TV with RGB compatibility, that could help solve the problem, though.

All in all, I suggest Center Ice. It's kind of pricey, but it's definitely worth it, IMO.

The last game I watched on my computer was the comeback against Boston 2 years ago. The picture was eh, and cut in and out, nearly ruined the experience.

With center ice, how often do you get MSG feeds?

I'm in the NY area, so I already get MSG, but they generally seem to have both feeds more often than not. I have DirecTV, BTW.

Overtime sports bar in North Myrtle Beach...I've watched several Rangers games there on HUGE screens. They get every game and there are a bunch of Ranger fans there. I saw a couple of playoff games there and it got REALLY loud. Food is very good and atmosphere even better.

Thank you! I'm right outside Myrtle, so that's huge to me.

I'm in Montana and a combination of Streamo and GameCenter live is all I need. Any games that are broadcast in your region are blacked out on GCL and also NBC games. So I use streamo if we play the Avs or Calgary and for NBC games.

On the PS3 or computer GCL is excellent quality. Streamo is generally very good as well but for big games and at the start of this season I noticed the quality dip with a lot of viewers tuning in.

I have Center Ice and I stream it to my 42" HDTV via a Roku. It is not bad. Smooth and usually in fairly decent HD.

Wait for a free trial from center ice, and try out streamo whenever.

Decide yourself what you'd prefer.
Although I'd still recommend CI to catch some other games.

I have GCL, and I like it. Some of the time the streaming quality is lackluster, but that could just be my internet connection, its great on my laptop but can lag on the PS3. I'd recommend it if you like watching other out of market teams. I usually watch Ranger games live and then western teams the day after. I am satisfied with it.

At this point, I don't know between Center Ice and GCL. I want to watch all of the hockey...

You a cop? I ask because there is quite a noticeable ex-NYPD presence in South Carolina.

This city is getting too out of hand with raising taxes and prices, I too will be looking to relocate after a few years.

And then after you move, they're going to lower the prices back down, and raise them wherever you decide to go

What's the difference between GameCenter and Center Ice?

If you have a PS3 or a 360 I know you can stream Ranger games on GameCenter. If your Internet is good enough you shouldn't have any problems. I had to watch Ranger games when I went to school in Florida and the Internet was terrible so it was skip backwards, freeze sometimes, and like others have said ruins the experience. However, if your Internet is good then I can't imagine it doing any of that stuff and I think it's cheaper than Center Ice...not sure on that though.
