Pitkanen, Gleason, or Harrison

In an attempt to sign big name free agent Ron Hainsey, the Hurricanes need to move one of the following three contracts:

Pitkanen: 1 year, $4.5 million cap hit
Gleason: 3 years, $4 million cap hit. NTC
Harrison: 3 years, $1.5 million cap hit

What's your offer? Keep in mind that Carolina needs less salary coming back their way, and we could use another bottom 6 forward.

Man, Kings could use Gleason again with Mitchell being iffy.

Alec Martinez
Colin Fraser
Kyle Clifford

Tim Gleason
Brett Sutter

Basically Martinez and Clifford for Gleason and Fraser for Sutter.

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frattin-Richards-Carter
King-Stoll-Toffoli
Carcillo-Lewis-Nolan
Sutter

Doughty-Regehr
Voynov-Gleason
Muzzin-Greene
Ellerby/Schultz

Not even going to try Carolina's roster.

Avs could use Pitkanen or Gleason.

-Pitkanen would likely have to be done around a conditional pick though (resigning or games played) + a Mitchell/Olver type bottom 6 player.
-Gleason may cost more than the Avs would want to part with right now until they see what they have in the existing roster under a new system and coach.

Hainsey is a big name?

Is her really an upgrade over Pitkanen and Gleason?

I would think the return for vet dmen on decent contracts would be very impressive.

I would probably do Gleason for McGinn or Downie+..

I would do anything (minus trading Skinner) to get Subban in a Canes jersey..

Tim Gleason, Ryan Murphy, Victor Rask or Tuomo Ruutu for P.K Subban?

How about Eller and Diaz for Eric Staal?

Haha. You do realize that Subban is the reigning Norris Trophy winner, right?

Also, I would have no qualms about Skinner going the other way in a Subban trade, so long as the +s needed to make it work weren't ridiculous (not that Montreal would make such a deal).

Toronto would love to add gleason to our roster. Solid defensively sound 2 way top4 dman on a decent contract.

We would have to move liles back for salary reasons.

How about this

Kulemin, 1st 2014, liles, Colborne.

Kulemin+1st should be enough, but with liles needing to leave colborne was added.

Could technically move liles seperately.

I dont think Carolina NEEDS Hainsey though. A bottom 6 forward is more important now and Morrow would be a better addition plus could fit into the category of "big name" (somewhat) that JR had mentioned.

I would do McGinn for either of them. I also move Wilson if you want a defender back. I wouldn't move Downie (we're weaker at RW than LW).

I think we discussed this a bit before to the satisfaction of both clubs, would be nice to see our GMs put something together with McGinn/Wilson and Gleason/Pitkanen.

Harrison is the only guy that makes sense to trade if we're truly going after Hainsey. Hainsey would be an upgrade over him, not Gleason or Pitkanen. Sure the cap relief might be nice if we traded Gleason or Pitkanen but the defense would go back to being its pitiful old self.

Harrison's contract makes him attractive, but it also makes him more valuable to Carolina because they lack cap room. Pitkanen is the best player of the three but his injury is a problem and they wouldn't get anything near fair market value for him.

That leaves Gleason, who can be a physical force and a good #3 shut-down D. He also has that gritty playoff warrior aura that teams scramble to overpay for at the trade deadline every year.

But really I don't see any of these players being traded in the offseason. Maybe if the Canes suck out loud and have no chance of making the playoffs. Otherwise it's just not a good fit to dump any of them right now.

I agree with everything you said. All I can add is that, despite how much we rag on Gleason in the Hurricanes board, I would love nothing more than to see him get paired up with the right guy (Sekera or Komisarek maybe?) and get back to what he does best.

My gut feeling is that the UFA mystery man is Hainsey, who could very easily replace Gleason's shutdown role. In fairness though, we're looking for equal value coming back our way.

The deals centered around Kulemin and McGinn are my favorites thus far.
