Is someone a whipping boy if they deserve the criticism? If so, it'll be Glass. Next guess is a tossup between Jokinen and D'Agostini.

Glass AINEC. The guy is not good at hockey and he's paid more than good 4th liners like Vitale and Adams

fleury should be the whipping boy. but i wouldnt be suprised to see him deliver a decent regular season performance which will cause everyone to proclaim hes finally changed his game. then hell start in the playoffs and suck once again.

his bloated contract is preventing this team from addressing its weaknesses.

glass's salary is inconsequential compared to fleury's.

For me it's going to be Fleury is he doesn't rebound. There isn't much to expect from Glass to begin with so there is no point getting mad at him. He was useless before he came here and he still is. Fleury eats up a lot more cap space and get's outplayed by the backup

Beat me to it TTEOT

Ya I was going on regular season. I fully expect Fleury to be solid again in that regard. We will need to wait until the playoffs to see his story play out.

I wouldn't say solid but more decent like TTEOT said. Besides wins, he was 17th in GAA with a 2.39 and 21st in SV% 9.16. He's lucky we have that offense that will win him a lot of high scoring games

Ya I don't expect that either. If Fleury is traded, bought out what ever it is, it's going to be after next season

"Vokoun did a great job in these playoffs but next year he won't get the chance because Marc Andre is going to take the net and win playoff games".

Starkey has an article up on the Trib site dated Tuesday

According to it, Flower will be seeing a sports therapist. Starkey says that Shero had asked him to do it before, but he finally agreed this time. Also mentions the Olympic 'snub'. Here's a quote:
Quote:
“The Olympic thing, I'm not going to make too much of,” said Penguins general manager Ray Shero, busy with Team USA and not inclined to opine on Team Canada, which invited five goalies not named Fleury to its tryout camp. “But if he takes something personal, good for him.”
So, who knows. It's helped other players, in hockey and in other sports.

Dupuis

He finally has his big contract, his hands will disappear again.

Possibly James Neal since there is a huge hole in his line. I don't see jokinen/Bennett feeding him many opportunities.

For defensemen: any D who makes more mistakes in two consecutive games than Lidstrom or Larry Robinson on their best two nights.

Forwards: Adams, Glass, Sutter, Unknown Sutter Linemate 1 (D'Agostini?), Unknown Sutter Linemate 2 (Jokinnen?), Third forward on Malkin/Neal line (Bennett, although he'll be given a 10-game grace period), Neal when he doesn't score for two consecutive games, and Geno when he gives the puck away and isn't immediately traded.

Goalies: Fleury, except when he wins a shootout.

Fleury will rebound, in the regular season.

Everyone will wonder why he did not get Olympic consideration and everyone will think that at 29, he has finally turned the corner.

He will once again implode in the playoffs, or right before the playoffs.

Bennett is the third best passer on the team.

Well it can't hurt so that's the good news. This is Fleury's make or break season.

There is that guy named Evgeni Malkin that passes pretty well. I hear James Neal was a 40 goal scorer on his line.

Didn't you hear? Malkin's shady Russian handlers forced him to retire and take the KHL's oil money.

He would have to be consistently bad to be the whipping boy. Which he isn't. He'll win another 40 or so games next year.

He'll be the whipping boy even on his good days in preparation for his collapse. We're going to have people hoping for him to fail so he doesn't keep playing. We're going to have people hoping for us to lose so Disco gets fired. Its going to be a ridiculous year around here.

Not really. After the past few playoff failures, the fanbase is pretty ticked off. He'll be watched like a hawk, with any bad goal being an implication of another collapse. A bit melodramatic perhaps, and certainly an overreaction, but such is life.

Such is the life of any goaltender. You're only as good as your next bad goal - ask Tuuka Rask about the last two goals he allowed.
