Stars-Caps

Saw this in the Goligoski thread, so I thought I'd make a dedicated proposal for it..

TO WASHINGTON
Trevor Daley
2nd Round Pick in 2014

TO DALLAS
Marcus Johansson

CAPS GET- Steady 2nd pairing D who has an all around game

STARS GET- the final piece for their second line. (Whitney-Mojo-Nichushkin)

Thoughts?

MaJo may or may not be the final piece for that 2nd line.

Hasn't really proven himself as top6C.

I think it would be sort of risky to start the season with Seguin and MaJo as your top 2 C's as both are young and both have played mostly at the wing.

Very good point. However, our 2C options right now are Eakin, Peverley, and Horcoff. I'm banking on Johansson being better than Pevs and Horcoff, and probably better than Eaks. Would be risky though.

Hahaha, I just offered this in my gm connected league. I wanted a young Center. Hopefully the other gm sees this.

MoJo has steadily improved each year he's been in the NHL. He will be a 50-60 point player next year. It's way too early to give up on him.

The Caps undoubtedly will need a defenseman at some point, but the quality of that defenseman, and the piece to part with to get him, produces some disagreement among Capitals fans.

I'd just as soon see Washington add a placeholder veteran and retain Johansson, personally. I'm a fan of his game.

Reasonable proposal, though, all things considered. I just would not be looking to move that young player.

First and most importantly, the numbers don't work for Washington. Secondly, Daley isn't really what they lack on D. He is quite mobile but they need more length on the back-end as well.

Would be willing to consider Daley, but at this point the salaries don't work for Washington. The Capitals can really only make salary neutral (or better) deals at this moment.

Why don't you guys add a little bit and take Brooks Laich?

Honestly, I don't think that Mojo per se is as good as his numbers say. He's not gonna replicate his numbers without Backstrom and especially AO.

still amazed at how little respect Johansson gets among caps fans.

That's what happens when his play is the poster child for the organization's biggest problem amongst forwards.

No. Daley and a 2nd is worth more than MoJo.

I would think Dallas doesn't even do Daley straight up.

which other caps forwards have this problem to the degree that the problem needs a poster child?

All except Ovechkin to various extents. Johansson is accentuated because he's put in a crucial position of being a 3rd wheel for our top line with 2 world class players and it falls apart in the playoffs largely thanks to him. If we had some other soft player in that spot he'd be the poster child instead.
