If it was coupled with a Gionta or Briere (as unlikely as that would be) for Klesla deal, I'd be in favor.
Can't move gorges unless another move for a top-4 dman is in the works.

MaxPac- Pleks - Brouwer
Bourque- Eller - Gally
Galch- DD - Briere
Prust - white - moen

Klesla - Subban
Markov - emelin/Murray
Murray/Tinordi - Diaz
Bouillion

That would be a pretty deep & effective roster.

Boyle is a good friend of Prust and he would be a good fit to center the fourth line. I'd trade White and Moen for him, but that's as far as I'd go.

they have already 15 forwards under contracts and only have 2.5M to sign Derek Stepan, they won't take Moen for sure. They want picks or prospects.... maybe White since he only get 700K?

I've been thinking about this and while Gorges would be greatly missed at the Habs' blue line, I'd take a leap of faith with this deal, especially if it was the second proposal of Brouwer and Erskine for Gorges and Moen.

You have to give in order to get and sometimes, you have to gamble and that's one deal that I'd gamble on.

Funny thing about McDonough is that he's literally the blandest player in the league. I've seen him play a bunch of times but I still have trouble recalling what he plays like, what his face looks like, or anything.

I can see that. I could say the same thing about guys like Roman hamrlik a few years back. Still crazy effective, though. Erik johnson is pretty damn vanilla, too.

Hamrlik?! I see that fat, lazy over-the-hill schlub in my nightmares to this day.

When he signed that outrageous contract, he took the number 44 - when asked he said that he hopes to bring an element to the power-play similar to what Souray did. Pansy wristers from the point and delay of game penalties, apparently.

Unless the Habs get really unlucky with injuries, I can't see them missing the playoffs. If somehow they appear to be out at the trade deadline, and Washington was in the playoffs. That might be the perfect situation for trading Markov and Gionta, to obtain Tom Wilson and their 1st round pick for 2014. Some people will think that's not enough, in that case add Desharnais as he's the only player going to Washington, that will be under contract after the season ends. They can get the 2nd line center they wanted when they signed Grabovski, by keeping Desharnais.

Washington has to make a serious run at the SC before AO & Backstrom are on the backside of their careers. Getting a promising PWF(Tom Wilson) and an extra 1st pick for giving the Capitals the SC seems a fair tradeoff.

It's certainly a better plan than losing Markov and Gionta to UFA status at the end of the season.

I made a counter proposal to a Flames fan on the DD trade offer page on the main board.

David Desharnais for Matt Stajan + Ryan Culkin + Greg Nemisz.

Stajan has the same cap hit as DD but only 1 year on his contract. He can olay 3rd line and is better defensively and bigger than Desharnais.

Culkin is from Montréal, played well with the Remparts and was an assistant captain. I personally like him.

Nemisz is a big guy with good hands. Seems to have all the tools but no tool box. Would be a low risk high reward guy. Former 1st round pick.

Max Pacioretty - Tomas Plekanec - Daniel Briere
Alex Galchenyuk - Lars Eller - Brendan Gallagher
Rene Bourque - Matt Stajan - Brian Gionta

Pretty nice top 9.

Why?? Boyle isn't anything special at all. He's butter soft too. Even DD is tougher than him.

Other than moving DD for the sake of moving DD, what's the point of this?

Saving 3.5M$ in the next 3 seasons and use it on a position we need more like wings and defense since we already have Plekanec, Briere, Eller and Galchenyuk as centers?

Change DD into Stajan? What is this silly hat wearing day?

I'd rather get a 7th pick than Matt Stajan. ( I might be exaggerating, but you get the point)

Once Galchenyuk is ready for the extra responsibility of playing center, DD will then be expendable, and with the cap going up and centers usually in demand we should get good return. Plus bouncing back to around 55 points would help also.

Makes no sense to trade him right now.

And renouncing to what will be an asset eventually for a liability?

I say it again : the true motivation of that deal is moving DD for moving DD.

No.

It saves us 3 years of his contract, helps us not have 2 midgets on a line, gives us a defensively responsible 3rd line, Eller or Galchenyuk can get his powerplay time, money to spend elsewhere and we get a big bodied winger prospect and LHD prospect which we have none of after Beaulieu and Tinordi.

They had money to spend elsewhere this summer and see what it translated into. We would have better off with trying to motivate Cole imho. I don't care about Desharnais' 3.5 mil. It isn't an albatross ffs! We need stop exaggerating the hate here, it's getting childish.

Yes, the motivation in that deal is to get rid of him which I'm perfectly fine with.

We don't need him and from what I see from other fanbases, he's not what they want to build a winning team with (playing in the top 6) and he's too expensive for a bottom 6.

Stop thinking that him getting 55 pts in the greatest thing in the world. Eller can easily get that production with the progression he had last year. Give him PP times and quality wingers, Eller will provide as much offense as DD and Eller is much more harder to play against.

Any contender teams wouldn't want DD as a top 2 center in the next 4 years but here, he's a great because maybe he can probably get us 55 pts in the regular season and be irrelevant in the playoffs.
