Best place for this without starting a whole new thread. Anyone think MB will try to deal DD on a daily bases as much as we do on the main board?

The NHL is not a video game. In real life replacing Desharnais with Prust Moen or Bournival hurts, not helps the team.

I definitely agree with this. Sometimes I just cringe when I read them. Some of the trade proposals are just soooooo ridiculous it makes one wonder what kind of drugs the proposers are on. Trading overpaid leftovers for other teams stars, upcoming draft picks, and/or draft choices is the norm.

How often do you see a trade of real equal value? Almost non existent.

Fot those of you proposing trades, at least make them somewhat realistic and something the other team might accept. Understand the concept that you have to trade something of value to get something of value not just dump your trash and high salaries to get something good in return in the hope some GM is brain dead stupid enough to take it.

Also keep in mind that the value of a player is not necessarily what you want to value him at, it's what the other teams are willing to pay or give up for him. e.g. no other team is going to take on Gionta's $5M contract on its own ... nobody. He has virtually no trade value. The only way you get rid of Gionta is to include him in a trade where you are giving up something of real value like Eller or Galchenyuk, or the other way would be taking back a high paid long contract back in return for his expiring so the other team can do a salary dump.

Or you can always retain a nice amount of money from his contract to make him more appealing... Keep 2M from his contract and I guarantee some teams will be interested in him...

Steve Ott

I know the player is hated among the base fan but isnt Steve Ott exactly what's missing on the Canadiens roster? Just replace Desharnais by Ott on our third line and our lineup magically appear super balanced:

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Brière
Galchenyuk - Eller - Gallagher
Bourque - Ott - Gionta
Prust - White - Moen

As I have already stated in another thread, we should take away from Plekanec some of his defensive responsabilites in order for him to provide more offence. He was such a dominant force playing along with Kovalev and Kostitsyn in 2008 and I believe he can do just that if we give him our best wingers, Pacioretty and Brière.

It gives us two offensively threatening lines and we keep a two-way line to match the opponenent topline. Ott can take Plekanec's duties with Bourque and Gionta and contribute offensively too.

Obviously we can't expect to swap Desharnais for Ott. But if Bergevin is serious about this year, Steve Ott is the guy he should look for. Price should be 1st round pick, but if we can get rid of Desharnais in the process it's worth it imo.

No.

I am all for getting bigger and tougher but Ott is classless. The habs get accused of turtling enough as it is....

How about forgetting about Ott who I admit would help the Habs and merely reshuffling. I think the results of a small adjustment can be profound:

E G G
Bourque Plekanec Gionta
Paccioretty Briere Prust
Moen Bournival White (Parros)

extra: DD

Thing is, you are not going to have a guy making DD money as a extra and MaxPac is not a third line player he should be on a line that can score and not sure that line would as much.

You keep saying this but it's simply not true.

If we scratch DD, it's not one of these players that takes DD's spot, it will be either Plekanec or Eller or Briere or Galchenyuk.

Also, an uninspired DD is no better than any of these guys in their respective role and they all look better than DD so far this season.

Stop pretending the habs can't live with the absence of a useless DD. He plays one of the biggest offense role of the team and suck at it so far this season. Yes, it's two games but if he doesn't want to deliver, especially with the season that he had last season(you wouldn't understand since you think he did well and was a reason why Pacioretty had his best season productively), there's plenty of players that will be glad to take his spot at center.

He might be a bit faster this season but that's about it. He looks weaker and unispired. It feels like he wants to get feed the puck rather battling for it.

I agree this is an upgrade and I do like ott. The only thing is.... I don't think many habs fan would like what we would have to trade for him.

Unless you mean wait for him to be a UFA which I don't think he will end up being one. The sabres can afford the road captain.

As much as Ott is unlikable, he's actually useful.

Buffalo says no, though.

I don't see the Sabres moving Ott. It just will not happen.

I am not a fan of DD either, but this plan will not work.

You're thinking of this: The Skylon was a futuristic-looking, slender, vertical, cigar-shaped steel tensegrity structure located by the Thames in London, that apparently floated above the ground, built in 1951 for the Festival of Britain. Wiki.

I'd be all over switching Ott for Desharnais.

I think Buffalo is in a position where they will unload and start a rebuild and Ott is the guy which I would target.

Replacing DD by Ott on the bottom 6 would be great.

But we should probably add something since Ott has a better value than DD.
