No chance Winnik gets traded. Would be an ultimate face-palm move if that were to happen.

Murray made a statement saying he wanted to get bigger and tougher. He also told season ticket holders that he didn't want to depend on Etem to produce as a second line player yet. If Selanne returns, he's odd man out IMO.

Lol, cmon. Murray and Boudreau were both weary of him having a sophomore slump. As much as I want him in the lineup, his role isn't suited for the fourth line and shouldn't be 3rd line (if it's a defense-first line). Etem has been great defensively, but we need him to step up offensively as well. Not to take away from him at all, because he really impressed me. I would just worry about rushing him in more now, while a little more time (not even a whole season) in the AHL would help his offensive game. It's worth doing now, instead of later when he is waiver eligible (since we obviously wouldn't expose him to waivers). Also, BB and BM love Winnik. I honestly wouldn't mind dealing him, as he was pretty invisible during the second half of last season, but I just don't see it.

That was for if Teemu was coming back though. If he doesn't, I'd keep Winnik and possibly try him on the 4th line if Etem clicks with Koivu and Cogs (think of that speed. Wow).

I could see that happening in the AHL. If he plays like he did in the regular season, he could score 10-20 next year in the NHL. If he plays like he did in the playoffs, he could get 20-30. Lots of ifs here, but it's very premature to say he'll score 20 when we have such heavy depth in the top 6. He scored 13 goals in 45 AHL games last year, and 6 total in 45 games for us. He just won't get the minutes with us if Teemu comes back. He will also have trouble getting top 6 minutes without Teemu with Penner/Silf/Palmieri.

I don't see us trading Winnik just to be able to pencil in Beleskey and Maroon on the 4th line. One-way deals or not.

Murray said it was unfair to count on Etem for 30-50 goals...

I say he ends up in Anaheim, the man who gave him that awesome contract is there, it's a nice and much more quiet market so he'll probably have more time to enjoy his family (he just got married and has a young daughter) and the weather is always nice plus let's not forget they have a pretty solid team as well.

Or he could want to stay on the East Coast considering his wife is from Toronto, so maybe Buffalo or Washington are options..

And when he signs with his new team for $4M per year or less, then everyone will know that Grabs took Burke to the cleaner because even he know he is not worth $6M a year.

If Grabo hadn't have been so greedy and accepted less to resign here he probably would not have been bought out.
He actually wasn't considerably overpaid when he signed. Guys with comparable recent numbers to him back then all signed in that ballpark. I don't see how it's greedy, and the Leafs agreed it wasn't greed. Him getting bought out and now getting two paychecks isn't going to be a huge problem for him. Had he signed for less, he would still be in Carlyle's doghouse, would still not fit great in his plans, and would still be overpaid for the limited role he'll be expected to fill. So, he would still likely be traded, to a destination he has less control over than now, while making less on the one base paycheck, let alone getting a second.

IMO he seemed to indicate that he didn't want too much pressure on him, meaning a top six role.

If Selanne comes back, he's odd man out as Silf and Palmieri are above him. Penner is too, for now.

It would be awesome to see Grabo in Nashville makes a lot of sense and opens up options to trade Gaustad or Smith and not have to worry about the center spot. But the sad thing is the stuff that make the most sense in everyone's minds is the complete opposite in Poile's eye's

If Grabovski goes to Anaheim, during the playoffs, the Ducks could have amazing depth if they slot Perry onto the "second line" with Grabovski. Maybe something like...

Penner - Getzlaf - Selanne ( during playoffs, of course)
Silfverberg - Grabovski - Perry
Winnik - Koivu - Gogliano
etc.

Teams would have a difficult time slowing down the Ducks. Depth is what wins playoffs, and I can see Grabovski easily turning to his 29G/ 58PT season. He did it with scrubs, he'd probably be producing at much higher levels with Perry. Getzlaf did spend a bit of time with Matt Beleskey and Kyle Palmieri, and we could see some interesting line combinations.

No but Winnik is a rarity on this team - a quality defensive forward with size and he's very good along the board. He's also our 2nd best PKer. You don't trade Winnik for the sake of fitting in another young offensive guy - if Grabo was signed by Anaheim it means Bonino goes to the 4th line and both Holland and Rakell are AHL bound and if Selanne is signed one of the young wingers will be AHL bound or Staubitz will be moved/waived.

Whoever gets him at 3.5-4m will be fortunate. A lot more fortunate than the leafs who are now paying 5m for Clarkson.

Wrong player, you mean Bolland.

Leafs upgraded the #3C spot with Bolland at 3.75 rather than pay 5.5M for a #3C who was also beat out at #1C by Bozak at 4.2 and Kadri who will make less then 5.5 this year.

Fact is, Grabo has been terrible since Wilson was fired.

Ya why do people act like Clarkson is replacing Grabo. Bolland is replacig Grabo. Considering Grabo was our 3rd line C not 2nd line winger. If anything Clarkson replaces(and upgrades) over MacArthur.

Bingo, and as I posted in another thread.

Clarkson has scored more goals than Dustin Brown has 45-40 the last 2 seasons while providing a similar game that Brown brings to the table.

Brown got a 5.85 for 8 year contract. More money and more years, is his contract bad?
