At the end of 2001 it would have been close for me, but in the last couple of years Alex Tanguay has really stepped up and I haven't seen that from Gagne

Agreed both are overated though. I wonder how many points tanguay could get though if he was a number 1 or 2 offensive player on the team
not 4th... THink Drury

Tanguay.

I wish Canada took him as the last forward at the world championship. When i looked at the roster i thought to myself, man this team lacks players that put up points. They choose Walker instead. Not a bad choice but not what i was lookin for.

Gagne has all around game he's good defensively and can chip in with offense aswell. Depending on my team's need I'd choose whomever would fit better for example Leafs Tanguay would be a better choice.

Gagne can do it all--he'd be a fantastic fit for any club. Tanguay is showing more and more out in Colorado, but I'd still rather take Simon Gagne on my team.

Tanguay, stricly offensively.
Gagne, as a player that I can use offensively, and as a all around type player.

Tanguay for sure since he's capable of leading the league in points.

Tanguay's offense puts him over the edge for me, but I really like Gagne too though, one of my favorite non-Pens.

Gagne's no slouch for sure, but after Tanguay's performance last year, I can't not pick him in this race.

It's a good question. Both have similar career numbers so far. Both have had the opportunity to play with elite players. I think maybe the only defining difference between the two is hockey sense. In this case, I give the edge to Gagne. Tanguay is far from lacking hockey sense, but Gagne seems to do the little things more often and with more consistency. I wouldn't complain about having either on my team. But it will be interesting to see how they pan out when they are expected to take on a more offensive/leadership role once some of their older producing teammates leave...

Even though Gagne is one of my absolute favourites, I have to say Tanguay might be better. It's close, though. Tanguay's been playing with Forsberg and Hejduk, so it's easy to look better than Gagne for him...

I took Tanguay, but I think Gagné will be better very soon, as his offensive production will probably raise.

Gagne with Ruutu and Daze would be fun to watch. Tanguay is one of the games best snipers, but Gagne is the more complete player.
