The Coyotes Now Have NINE Defenseman Under 1-Way Contracts

Somethings gotta give. Maloney has to be tripping balls seeing what he's got in front of him.

OEL, Yandle, Morris, Klesla, Stone, Michalek, Summers, Rundblad, and David Freakin' Schlemko.

OEL is the 2nd most impossible player on our team to be traded, followed by Yandle, so let's try not to make this into a thread about them unless you are proposing an overpayment in our favor. That's not us fans speaking either, Maloney has been on record saying he will not trade Yandle or OEL unless it was a deal that he ABSOLUTELY could not turn down. For example, it's been rumored that Maloney has turned down offers for Yandle such as Gagner and MPS...and one from Philly consisting of Couturier and Read. Those are rumors, but you see what I mean. What are your predictions?

EDIT: Our NEEDS are wingers and maybe a center. We have a hole on either the 1st/2nd line wing. Either RW or LW

What do you guys need? Forwards? Backup Goalie? Picks?

Detroit might be interested if we could dump some of our forwards. If the trade is right, we might talk about Tatar.

The Ducks would be very happy to take a #3/#4 preferably right-handed defenceman off your hands. Anyone fits that bill?

As a Leaf fan I'd be interested in Klesla and especially Michalek. Big, physical RHD.

Would the Coyotes have interest in Desharnais or Gionta?

These threads pop up every year. Last year it was San Jose that had way too many NHL defenceman and were certain to make a trade before the season. They didn't.

NHL teams like depth on defence, 8 guys is not that rare. If there are no injuries or anything else after camp, maybe then you trade or waive the guy lowest on your totem pole, but I don't see a pressing need to make a trade for them.

The answer is simple: convert OEL to LW and Yandle to RW.

Nashville has too many forwards, Phoenix has too many wings.

Would Klesla be available?

Good point. San Jose tends to roll into camp with more defensemen than they need. Now to be fair, sometimes one has been on a try-out and thus isn't a one-way contract. I think it part teams do this because they're hoping a couple people step up and their bottom-pairing is cheaper than it could have been.

It's not that hard to get rid of a healthy defensemen that's not making huge money. Hell, how many 7th/8th defensemen for a conditional pick do we see?

OEL can be the #1 center, problem solved.

We're all unanimously thinking Klesla, Schlemko, and Summers are probably the main trade bait. Most of us think Rundblad is going to stick, but a few think that he was signed so he can be traded. That said, if you're proposing a deal for Rundblad, your team better be prepared to take him on full time on your NHL roster or risk losing him to the waiver wire.

The Flyers have Timonen, Schenn, Coburn, Grossmann, Meszaros, Gustafsson on 1 way contracts also. Maybe a trade can be worked out between us?

The LA Kings have 9 defensemen on 1-way contracts currently on the roster as well. It's the offseason. The Coyotes will likely trade one for considerations/late picks or throw one on waivers.

What would it take to pry away Klesla and/or Rundblad to the Oilers?

That being said, this is very unlike Maloney. We signed Summers....a guy who has played a very small handful of games and didn't stick out very much, to a one way deal. Rundblad is almost sure to get a full time shot, Gormley is almost ready and could grab a spot in camp, Stone and Schlemko were dark horses that nobody really knew about that impressed the entire Coyotes staff and others....and Maloney said we are going to fill out top 6 winger void via trade...I think our situation is a little different than San Jose's. Plus, didn't San Jose convert Burns to forward because they had too many defenseman? I could be wrong, but if I'm not, that is also very unlike Maloney.

You lost some defenseman this offseason, we didnt. We don't have any holes to fill.

True, but GMDM has said he is looking for a top-six winger and it would be done through trade because he had no interest in the remaining free agents. He also said that it would be done later in the off-season, likely during camp. He hasn't really been very secretive about the situation at all.

Coyotes' fans are just trying to figure out who is going to be moved and what is likely to be offered for them. Either way, the Coyotes WILL trade one of their D-men away. We just don't know who it will be and for what in return.

Our D are good though.

Coyotes need a scoring top 6 winger.

So what you're trying to say is it's time for a "Phaneuf to Phoenix" thread?

Waivers will sort it out, like every other year.
