I like those lines. If Teemu should return I can't see him defending a spot in the top6 the way he performed the last half of this past season. Limited time with Koivu on the 3rd line plus some PP as well should be an optimal solution for him.

Thanks. I believe that fresh Teemu is productive Teemu. Winnik-Koivu-Cogliano could be put together if they absolutely needed to shut down some opposing line. Therefore Selšnne would play with Silfverberg and Bonino/Holland but Koivu's line would play bigger minutes because the line they would be against would probably be on the ice more often.

Calling it `the biggest decision of my career`, Selanne said that he has three clear options in front of him: return to Anaheim, play for another NHL team, or retire.
That was never an option for him before (previous seasons). Now he is considering it.

We were never in a position before that could potentially force him into a lesser role. If he opts to join another team, I won't hold it against him. It's a weird situation.

I love all the people who comment on how he needs to retire a Jet. He was only there a few seasons! If you ask most around the league about him, he is a Duck.

As for retirement, I still hope he retires but as ED said, I would not hold it against him if he left. It would be strange to see him in another jersey though.

Edit above.

My choices feom most to least favorite.

1- Teemu joins wpg or ???
2- Teemu retires
3- Teemu accepts this vague lesser role on the ducks

There's no guarantee that he'd be in a lesser role. That only happens if the kids beat him out at camp.

While in a way I hope he retires.

I'd much rather him play 13/14 for Anaheim then ****ing Winnipeg

Hopefully he plays for the Ducks. Penner and Perry are the only sure top 6 players on this team (and they are both known for lazyness at times). I want one more season out of Silfverberg and Palmieri to be sure that they are the real deal and can handle top 6 role. Also, one of Holland or Bonino is likely to center the 2nd line so there are a lot of youngsters in the top 6 and I like having a star veteran to back them up. Plus, team seems to play better when Selšnne motivates them.

Can't even imagine Selanne on any other team but if he goes that route, I'm okay with it. He's still a hero in Anaheim regardless.

Reminds me of the Modano situation a few years ago. If he wants to try his luck elsewhere it is fine by me. He has earned the right to do whatever he wants to.

Absolutely, if you poll fans, league executives, reports, even Teemu himself, he'd wear a Ducks cap into the HOF if...you know...hockey players wore caps. I don't think anyone is disputing that.

What you're ignoring, however, is a very real emotional connection that Teemu and the City of Winnipeg have. It doesn't supersede Teemu's incredible accomplishments and what he's built here in Anaheim, but the connection is there nonetheless. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a professional athlete who had as much of an impact on a community as Teemu had on his first few years in Winnipeg. That's what leads to the emotional reponses you read. I get why Ducks fans might get their backs up, because he IS a Duck...certainly. But, that bond with Winnipeg will always be there.

I haven't posted it on any boards, so it's not something that I can point to, but to friends and family I've been saying all summer that I just have a gut feeling that Selanne to the Jets might...just might...make sense. Practically, it's there. The Ducks do have a surplus of offensive wingers they need to find ice time for. Teemu's absence wouldn't create the huge hole now that it once would have. I still think he would be very useful and successful on this team, but for the first time I don't think it'd be a tragedy if he moved along. From Winnipeg's perspective, they were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league last year and had one of the worst PP's. They have the chance to add a specialist and veteran leadership at an assumed affordable price. Add in the emotional stuff and the "nice story", and for a one-year commitment it seems like something that might work out for all three parties. That's very rare in pro-sports.

I don't want to see Teemu leave Anaheim. I also don't want to see him retire unless he's 100% ready to. If he feels he has more left in the tank, I want to see him play, and if that means in Winnipeg then so bit it.

That's exactly what it smells like to me too. Teemu had always said it was the Ducks or retirement. Something has definitely upset that apple cart. It sounds like BM has told him to expect a lesser role if he comes back and it isn't sitting well with Teemu. This could get interesting.

I certainly have no issue if he decides to go somewhere else although it will be a bit sad to see.

I live near Winnipeg and the Jets are my #2 team since they came back. As much as I know he would help the Jets because their top 6 is basically a joke, I do not want Teemu to sign with them. I would rather see Teemu sign with the Ducks and accept a lesser role(if he gets beat) or retire.

Playing one more year with what should be a bottom 3 team in the conference and likely proving BM right about needing less minutes in the process is no way to do a farewell tour. Regardless of any "connection" with the fans. That's an ego trip, not a hockey decision.

If Teemu plays on another team I'll be annoyed at the Ducks management. They must have pushed him out or something for him to even consider it compared to before.

Holy smokes. I'm sorry, I love you Teemu, but it's time to walk away. I never thought I'd be this tired of waiting on this guy to make his decision. Jesus Christ this has become incredibly annoying.

This is also where I am. IMO he'd only leave if he wasn't treated right.

But I'd also be frustrated if he went to Winnipeg. They're a terrible team. I'm happy to root for him in a contender but to see him spend the last of his days on some garbage team just to play 18 minutes a night. . . That really would be pathetic.

Oh boy this isn't true at all. Our top 6 centers are arguably bottom 5 in the league, but our wingers are fantastic. That's the problem with picking up Selanne, is he would automatically have Ladd (2nd in ESP last year), Kane, and Wheeler in front of him on the wings. All three are 1st line wingers. We also picked up Setoguchi and would like to retain him past this year, which means he should play on the 2nd line with Kane. Setoguchi was under utilized on the Wild last year after they picked up Pominville he was pushed to the 3rd line.

So his role would be on the 3rd line likely with Scheifele and Frolik. We would likely use Selanne on the 1st PP since ours was dead last in the league last year. But Setoguchi is also penciled in on the 1st PP as well. Both have good right handed one-timers, something we don't have in our forwards.

So I don't see us offering him much more play time or role than you guys. 3rd line PP specialist who is the first to slide into the top 6 when an injury/scratch occurs.

As far as cost, we could easily afford him using the bonus cushion. $2.3 million left on regular cap, $3.6 bonus cushion.

I'm quite disappointed to hear he may be more seriously considering moving to another team. I don't really get the logic, honestly.

If this is about his role and more minutes, sure he can probably get that somewhere else.. but (as was previously said) likely with a team not in serious contention for a Cup run... which would seem to defeat the purpose if he's really wanting to win.

Unless there's something under the covers with the he and the Ducks we aren't aware of.... I think Teemu needs to come to grips with reality as to his likely role. If he comes out an plays like he did 2 yrs ago, I'm sure he'd get rewarded... otherwise, his role and ice time should be less than it has been.

While I wouldn't hate him if he goes elsewhere, I have to say it would leave a little sour taste in my mouth.

and I'm kinda siding with AngelDuck here a little... part of me wants to respect Teemu and give him all the time he needs, but I'm really tiring of this retirement game he plays every year. It's one thing to take a couple months off and think about it, but it should not stretch well into August, or beyond each year... that's too much. It's disrespectful to the team and the fans.

Yeah, Setoguchi was underutilized with the Wild...and the Sharks...

If it's not WPG or a top contender..... just doesn't make sense to me for him to be away from family or move his family, join a new team, new system, new environment etc. for what will most likely be his last season.

That's just me, but yeah.

Also considering a 3M salary, out of the playoff teams (from last season) who can afford it and or who has the roster space? IMO, i think Anaheim is still the best option for Teemu.
