Chris Stewart to Montreal

What do the Blues need / look for in a deal?

I've wanted Montreal to trade for Stewart for years now. Curious to see what STL fans would expect in return.

Gorges + Moen? Or am I way off?
Yeah dude, you're way, way off. What would you think of Roman Polak and Vladimir Sobotka for Max Paccioretty?

Fair enough. So what does it take to make the deal? I'm not good with proposals, just trying to figure out the value.

We wont be trading Stewart, we have enough cap room for everybody after trading Perron.

You would have to make Galchenyuk available and then tell us what we would have to add to Stewart to get him. For the Blues to trade Stewart, they would need a better forward coming back and not add salary. I know my proposal isn't realistic which is why it isn't realistic for Montreal to acquire him.

Yep. We'd be adding someone like Rattie or Jaskin, and likely more...Montreal would still say no.

Actually I'd really like to acquire Polak. What would it take?

Also not available, at least not for another year or 2 until more of our defensive prospects are ready.

A similar player. Look, it isn't that our players are untouchable, but he fills in a specific role for this team - and we don't really have anyone to fill that role - that plays on the Right side. While we have some good prospects that play the shut down role, they need time in the AHL.

We would need another Polak type coming back in the trade. So why make a move to make a move?

Stewart is the same. He is our top goal scorer. We move him - we would need a replacement. Our window is open now. Moving players under solid contracts for prospects doesn't make sense. Down grading in a 2 for 1 doesn't make sense.

So unless it is an upgrade - I wouldn't do it.

Here is something to chew though: Galchenyuk for Taransenko.

This would give Montreal a winger that is projected to be elite and dominated every level of play. Galchenyuk gives the Blues a similar center.

This is a trade you would need major balls to pull off.

Nope, Montreal has wanted an elite center forever. Not available - even if Tarasenko is on par. all the best habs forward prospects are wingers. no deal

Alright, so I was completely off. This thread can be deleted I guess.

For some reason I was under the impression he wasn't that popular within the organization and at one point was the odd man out.

I guess there is no reason for STL to consider moving him now that space has been opened up with the Perron trade.

We needed a center and we signed Roy, then one of Perron/Stewart was moved. That covered everything that we've discussed previously on here.

What on earth gave you that impression?

He was/is a valuable commodity, and some Blues fans speculated he could be moved to try and fill a hole elsewhere (mainly at center), but the Blues found other ways to address that. But it was never because he is unpopular....rather because he hold value league-wide.

A LOT of people bash on Stewart. If he's read anything on the Blues forum, then we are the ones that probably gave him the impression.

Fans bashing and front office opinion are not very well correlated, especially if you're using HF as the source. I can't even recall a single reputable rumor about Stewart being shopped. On the other hand: Perron, Halak, Elliott have all had multiple sources mention in this regard.
