cowen was part of a memorial cup winning team in his rookie season in the ohl
cowen was a big part of the calder cup win in bingo
cowen has been very good in the nhl regular season
cowen has been bad to horrible in the nhl playoffs

he has performed in the playoffs in lower levels. his play in the nhl playoffs would concern me if he wasn't a young defenseman that is pretty much entering his second nhl season (also, i pretty much write off this past playoffs for him as he was back from injury), and he wasn't performing well in the regular season. give him some time, he'll figure the playoffs out eventually. he has at every other level.

Good point.

Other than Cowen, Ceci is probably the defenseman I'm most excited to see develop. Really looking forward to seeing what he'll do in the A next year.

Cowen came back from surgery, it was an abnormal year for him. Further evidenced by the fact that he appeared to regress from the previous year. He didn't, it was just an odd year with the surgery for him.

Also, using one playoff series as a barometer is questionable. Chara has a rough playoff series against Buffalo & Muckler read too much into it.

Considering how good Cowen looked in Bingo to start the year, I'm excited to see how he comes out this year. I think/hope we see a big jump from what we saw post surgery last year.

Excellent point. Cowen was Karlsson like dominant in the AHL. Albeit it was only 3 games but he was unfrikinbelievable at both ends of the ice.

I couldn't wait to see him play, even more than Silfverberg and Wiercioch, then the injury happened and the whole season went into a funk.

It was like a man versus boys. He was every sense of the word 'dominant'.

Although I think he'll be fine, he seems to make critical errors where he tries to do too much and goes off chasing the man. He did it against Pittsburgh last year, and he did against NYR in game 7. We'll see if coaching can correct these mistakes.

Still think we got to get a top 4 defenseman, think we should kick the tires with Phoenix and see what they want for Keith Yandle.

Keith Yandle isn't a top 4, he's a top 1 and will cost Zibanejad + 1st + ?, and we don't have a 1st and can't afford to trade Zibanejad.

No, his price is not Zibanejad + a first.

But you're right he is a #1 D.

He's more valuable than Bobby Ryan and Ryan got Silfverberg, Noesen and a 1st.

Yes, his price is Zibanejad and a 1st at minimum.

2 years left at 5.1 million, 26 year old 55-70 point winger coming off a 0.65 point per game season

I take the guy that has an additional year on his contract, when I consider he put up almost equal points as the other guy last year, who is a forward, it just makes it easier.

Yeah, yeah, I can see it now. "Ryan will pot 40 with Spezza, you can't actually look at his previous stats because his situation has changed" well "Yandle will rack up 65 points with Karlsson on the power-play"

Yeah, I'll agree that Yandle probably has more trade value than Ryan. Ryan can have a much bigger impact on our team than Yandle though. Lots of teams need top pairing D. Like probably half the league. We're pretty spoiled in Ottawa.

EDIT: I'll keep saying this: we're much better off staying put until the deadline and seeing where Wiercioch, Cowen and Gryba (maybe even Ceci) are at. We'll net MUCH better returns if we fill the holes internally. We don't even have any holes until those 3 defenseman prove that they can't handle their minutes and so far that's not the case.

Yeah but you can't actually look at his previous stats. I think his situation has changed a lot.

I know you'll say that Yandle will put up 65 with EK on the PP, but Ryan is going to pot 40 with Spezza, book it.

After the Jets went on a crazy spending spree this week... the Sens now have the second lowest payroll... only ahead of the NY Islanders...

Excellent. No sense in tying up unnecessary money when so many contracts will be coming off the books in the next few years and most will need raises.

Why can't we sign some vets for 1-2 years? Another 2nd line forward and 2nd pair defenseman

Pathetic a Canadian market team is being out spent by 28 other clubs

Simple. We already have too many bodies. We risk losing a few of them to waivers at the open of the season. And it's a lot easier to bring in another body than it is to ship one out.

Plus, I'm not convinced that any of the remaining options are significant improvements over our guys. Maybe a handful of RFAs, but no one we could get without needing a first is worth the risk, IMO.

I'm totally cool with making the playoffs every year while being near the bottom of the league in payroll.

Grabovski/Mueller/Raymond/Boyes/Brunner would all improve our team.
