I watched the Central Division review on NHL today. Seems like nobody on there was too impressed with the Wild which was weird.

Well.... for good reason, tbqh. The Wild are the epitome of an okay team, imho. Not great, like the Hawks, or good, like the Blues, but not bad either.

I agree. They are really banking on several young guys performing extremely well to get their offense and the D is suspect outside of the first pairing. Last year they were the darling with their signings but I think the newness has worn off.

Those young players can't lead. They have problems keeping looking at themself on the ice... they aren't leaders yet.

They don't need them to lead. They spent $200mm on that. They need them to score and that being consistent in an 82 game season is a big question mark.

Andrew Ference? Why not just give it to Horcoff?

Most teams don't give the C to player on another franchise

I've seen a number of writers and the like predicting St. Louis in the Finals this season. I don't get that. Playoff team? Absolutely. Don't know what they've done to warrant that kind of praise, however.

Don't know why people pay any attention to predictions. They're usually way off. Did the majority of people really pick Boston, Los Angeles, and Chicago to win the last 3???

Actually, I think a great way to see who is NOT going to win is to go by the most popular prediction. It makes me upset to see so many picking the hawks to win

Hard not to pay attention when they're all over the place when you're reading about hockey or seeing things on social media. Simply begging a question at a curious observation.

The Blues are the new Caps IMO

Writers/fans/etc see them as some next big contending team but I just don't think they will get there with Hitchcock behind bench and a group that really lacks a game breaker up front

They will be good but I don't ever see them winning anything until major changes are made to there core/coaching

Yeah, don't get me wrong, they're a solid club and can win a round or maybe even two in the playoffs but I just haven't seen anything from last year to this year that lends me to believe they're a Cup contender right now.

Sounds like Kessel might be close to extending with the Leafs. I'm guessing he'll get 8-8.2m. We'll see

I did actually pick the Kings to win it, and Boston has been good for awhile. But you're right, there are always surprises. A lot of the same teams make it every year though, so it not totally off base to have similar predictions.

As for the Blues, I think their success is directly related to how well their younger guys perform, and whether or not Halak makes a come back. I think a lot of folks have written off Halak a bit too soon, but even if he's a monster for the Blues I don't see them winning against an Eastern opponent.

Oh I don't mind the discussion/observations for others. Personally I think it's usually WAAAY off base, just me though.

On topic: STL doesn't have the offense to win a cup IMO. I think 2 years ago was a fluke season with Halak and Elliot playing out of their minds.

Unless Tarasenko is the next coming of Ovie, they need more offense.

Hitchcock will never allow it

He will stifle the offensive talent of whatever player they bring in to add more offense. Ken Hitchcock is basically Andy Murray/Terry Murray with a ring

If he didn't have that cup win as Stars coach in dead puck era he wouldn't have gotten as many chances to coach post lockout

That's a lot of money, but they had no choice.

No, they really didn't. And he would have gotten at least that - maybe 500k more from someone desperate - if he became a UFA, so it's probably not an over payment.

The Sabres have named two captains of the team for this year - Vanek and Ott. Vanek will wear the C at home and Vanek on the road.

Ott is an odd choice
