Same here man. Football is one day a week for me, since I don't care much for college ball and baseball sucks.

oh, i agree with you - and i think the same could be said with other guys who had underplayed their aav. but i still thought he'd come around and have been signed by now.

but re bruner - i agree with you, he's one of the bigger surprises. he's still young-ish, the contract he's coming off of wasn't huge or anything, and his numbers weren't bad (given what he was being paid).

He shoots a ton. Similar to young Frolik. I wouldn't sign him if I were a winning team but if I were a crappy team that had trouble scoring, definitely sign him.

Kessel told the Leafs he won't negotiate them during the upcoming season (he's a ufa at the end of the year). Wonder if he's prepping to skip town

Too bad we don't need another winger.

There is no way in hell I would want Kessel at 8mil or w.e he is going to want. He is not a player you build a team around.

no, i agree with you... i guess i just meant more generically he's a really good player...the $8m aside, i wouldn't mind him on the team , just b/c i like him.

someone will give him his 8m though. he's going to end up getting paid. laughing aside, i'll actually feel really bad for the leafs if he walks on them. he's their only really good player.

Kessel won't be a leaf I guess. I wonder who is going to give him a huge contract.

I know the devils need to replace Kovie..but with their internal cap, who knows

Kessel won't negotiate with the Leafs this season? Well, that's something.

he wants to be traded around the TD if the Leafs are a bubble team at best

that's what they get for when they wasted parts of his career

Maybe they'll be better off. Aren't they in a bit of a cap crunch? Having an extra $7-8 mil in cap space would be useful in signing their other guys. I wonder if they trade him for futures at the deadline or halfway through the season

their cap crunch is bad right now. how bad it is next year will depend on how much the cap rises.

it will be interesting to see what happens...both phil and dion are ufas next year. kessel's obviously the better player of the two...the thing is that the leafs, even when they were really bad, were still offensively okay - that's the one thing they have going for them.

their problem is that their defense makes baby jesus cry. and their best projected d-men (now/future - gardiner, rielly) aren't great defensively. dion, for the hate gets, isn't nearly as bad as people think - can play hard minutes and there's no one on the team or system now who projects to be as good defensively (on the leafs) as he currently is. while his hockey iq is a negative number, he takes horrendous penalties, and he is entirely dislikeable, i have started to think the leafs are more ****ed if he leaves than if phil does.

There's a rumor going around involving Paul Stastny and Ryan Miller. That trade would have to be Stastny and Varlamov for Miller+ to make any sense.

IMO Varlamov has the potential to be a fantastic goalie. He has been playing in front of (arguably) the worst defense in the NHL the past two seasons. I know this is a huge tangent, but if Crawford were to ask for Howard-ish money next offseason, i'd be totally fine with letting him walk and then trading for Varlamov.

Oh and...

Stastny + Varlamov
Miller +++

That "+++" would have to be a dman for it to make any sense for the avs

Varly never reached that higher level and he isn't consitent enough. Miller is better than him.
