If this is seriously what people are expecting then may God help David because surely he's going to be a failure if this is the standard he is being compared to.

No rational person is expecting this. ESPN is basically the onion, except they aren't intentionally trying to be funny (I think anyway).

What the ****? Just because Clarkson was a fan of Wendel growing up... Must be a slow news day south of the border.

His previous play hasn't warranted that expectation. But his contract has.

It makes perfect sense.

He's paid much much more than he deserves based on his career average of 30 points.
As a result of that dramatic over payment, expectations have inflated to Wendel Clark proportions.

Just go away or shut up about Clarkson already my goodness. We get it, you dont like him, no sense in getting all excited at any chance to talk bad about the guy

You're those "fans" who trash on a player and when he starts doing well, you are no where to be found

I can only imagine how it will be when you get angry and unparticular.

Anyway, I think we should wait until November at very least to pass the judgement. I trust our management knows more about hockey than even most sophisticated fans here let alone average.
We had good year and tweaked few areas of weakness without drastic overhaul of the roster, so results next year will probably be in line with this year especially seeing as few teams in the East became worse, not better.

I'm seriously confused as to what I have to be pissed about.

Should "real" fans be upset about something John Ferguson did in 2006? No.

You are a troll. It's in plain sight. Either that, or you are just an angry person in life. Which sucks dude.

I didn't even know ESPN cared about hockey. Their opinion of it means about as much to me as DO's views on the Leafs.

I agree that anyone with a brain probably isn't expecting this, but the comparisons have been thrown around a lot and the Toronto Sun went overboard too.

The Sun loves stirring the pot. I'm stunned ESPN actually gives enough of a **** to do a story about it.

Pretty quiet off-season though; nothing else to write about.

Except in today's NHL, a prime Wendel would get Corey Perry type money as a UFA, and he'd be worth every penny unlike Clarkson who is a $4M player (maybe) getting badly overpaid. By your logic, if UFA Clarkson getting paid $5.25M warrants the expectation of Wendel-like production, what did RFA Kessel getting $5.4M warrant? Sundin/Keon/Sittler expectations?

The media is gonna turn on Clarkson quick when he doesn't put up Wendel Clark numbers. Which is upsurd, the two should not be compared. The only Clark, David should be compared to is MacArthur. Clarkson took his spot in the line up and should produce better numbers.
