Speculation by me...

With the realignment of the new Divisions, do you think there'll be many trades amongst teams inside the division or do you think business will still go on between GM's in the same division ?

Personally, I don't think there'll be much talk between GM's in the same division (apologies if this has been discussed)

Barring overpayment, no one will want to trade with their division, especially with the playoffs at stake.

Not sure;

But if you think of some scenario; like at the deadline, Col and Chi trade involve Statsny and Hjalmarsson +. This would presumably balance out the team with two impending UFAs.

Let's say that Col/Chi have no more games in the regular season, and thus would not jeopardize each other's chance of positioning in the playoffs; then there is really no risk of helping the other team to improve. Especially given that other division rivals, who would have to play one of these teams, would be disadvantaged in the process.

But let's say that they still have 3 head to head games remaining on schedule, it would make it very difficult to imaging that they would kindly help each other out. Col could be knocked out of a playoff spot (they are probably on the bubble this year as to whether they make it). Or Chicago could be knocked from top 2 in the conference into losing home ice in the 1st round. Either way, they probably won't make that deal.

So it all depends on the circumstances involved.

I would think it eliminates too many potential trade partners to exclude the division, especially with NTCs potentially factoring into the equation.

Closes doors that were previously open for Detroit, and vice versa.

A trade within the division is rare. The type of deals you see are deals for 3rd or 4th liners or bottom pair Dmen. You will also see a team trade a veteran near retirement to a playoff bound team for a cup run. Any major deals are sssssoooooooo rare.

Any deals you see in the division I will wonder if the know in 2 yrs expansion happens and they form 8 4-team divisions and all the GMs know who won't be division rivals and who will be.

For example the Sabres may be more open to trading Vanek to Montreal if they know Montreal won't be a division foe when expansion happens say in 2015-16 season.
