Right handed Top 4 Defenseman to Dallas

I'm not looking for a OEL/Pietrangelo type blockbuster, so keep that in mind before you ask for Nichushkin or Brett Ritchie.

What's the value of a right handed d-man to the Stars?

Are you looking for a Defense-First righty or a PMD righty??...Top 4 only??...the Habs have Diaz (NHL 4/5 PMD) and Pateryn (NHL-ready Bottom Pair Defensive) right now...what's Dallas' needs??..

Exactly what I was thinking. He's more of a #4/5 guy, but you don't lose any assets and I'm sure at this stage of the offseason you can sign him for cheap.

Any one of Boyle, Braun or Demers could be had from the Sharks for a reasonable return. Which one would you like to discuss (being a Dallas fan, I assume you have seen a lot of each of them)

I don't wanna speak for Sean, but were set with offensive D for this year (Gonch on first pair, Goose on second, Connauton on third). What I'm thinking is a 1st-2nd pair defensive defenseman, capable of 15-20 points a year. Girardi is the first guy that comes to mind.

We'd either want a good LW or a RD + coming back. The only LW we'd want is Benn, and he's off the list. I'm not sure who plays RD and shoots Right handed that you'd be willing to part with in a package.

Can't help you there. I'll check back later to see if Sean is interested in one of the Sharks roster RHD

No, I'd prefer to get defenders who can actually play defense. Franson put up points in an up-tempo system that allowed him to take as many risks as he needed to to put up those numbers - he wouldn't get that luxury in Dallas.

As hard as one would be to acquire, Dallas really needs to add a legitimate top pairing defender somehow. I'm not sold on Dillon or Oleksiak becoming a #1 defender, or even really a top pairing shut-down defender. One of them might, but I'm not expecting it.

Signing Girardi for something like 4.5-5.5M per year would be great for Dallas, but I'm not sure Girardi is the answer to our defensive woes. We have enough depth as is, and plenty of prospects who project to be #3s through #6s.

I still believe that Dallas needs a top notch, young defender before they're competing again. I've shown my love for Voynov here before and I think he's the perfect option for Dallas, but he's obviously unattainable at this point. I think, unless we get a great deal for a legitimate young #1 defender, we're better off just staying put and not overpaying for what we need, hoping that we get lucky and end up with a top notch defender in our prospect pool, no matter how unlikely it is.

I agree with LT, Voynov would be great. However, I think, based on what Kings fans have said, that's not going to be possible.

As far as trades go, Girardi would be a very solid pickup. If we're looking for someone a bit younger though, my dream (besides Voynov) would be Kevin Shattenkirk. Still young so he'd fit right into the core we're building, and he'd be a solid top pairing offensive D-man.

In UFA, there's a few decent defensemen available. I may be in the minority here, but I'd love to pickup Douglas Murray. I know he's on the wrong side of 30 and he's definitely slowed down (was he ever fast to begin with?) however I think he'd be a decent option as a physical, shutdown defenseman, plus he's free. Tom Gilbert is also available as mentioned above, and that wouldn't be too shabby either.

I'd honestly give Eminger a contract. The guy can skate well and when he sticks to the defensive side of the game, the guy was pretty solid. I'd also give Radek Martinek a look. Both UFAs.

If Nill wants a RH D he'll sign White or Gilbert after training camp. Plenty of decent stopgaps out there for cheap that don't require giving up assets.

Give the Jets a call at the deadline. Buff, Postma, and Redmond are likely available then. Bogosian and Trouba are not.

Dan Girardi was made for Dallas. Defensive defenceman that blocks shots.

Murray has slowed immensely. He is at best a #6 now, but he is SOLID in front of his net and still decent blocking shots. He does more damage being run into (opponents who try to hit him usually regret the attempt) than he does trying to throw a hit. If you are looking for a second pairing guy, avoid Murray. If you want a #6 PKer, Murray has some left in the tank for that role.

Not sure what type you are looking for.
Wisniewski is only available under specific circumstances because he fills a very specific role on this team (PP triggerman) and is the BFF of our probably-soon-to-be team captain.

Can't speak authoritatively for the others, but I imagine there's similar conditions on a trade for Girardi or Byfuglien too.
