Reimer to Long Island

Toronto: James Reimer, 2014 2nd round pick

Islanders: Ryan Strome

With Bernier being brought in by Nonis and the new ownership, it seems that Bernier will likely be the number one going forward, and I believe it is obvious Bernier is the more talented of the two. What do you guys think value-wise?

I think we should throw Tavares in to make the deal a bit more even for the Leafs.

Leafs aren't doing anything goalie related..... Bernier is hardly a lock.... let them battle and go from there....

it would be a classic leafs move though... deal Reimer and he becomes a star while Bernier flops and we're **** forever

I'd more like to do a trade around Phaneuf for Strome, with the necessary +'s being added

NYI won't move Strome, they will be very unhappy about this offer. Plus why can't we let the goalies duke it out for once...

I think that Lombardi would have personally driven Bernier to Long Island and set him up with a super model if Snow had offered Strome for Bernier.

So, assuming that Bernier is more talented, why would we offer more for the less talented goalie?

You know, you missed the boat on this one. You could have had the little boy, i mean el ni~no.

I think something revolving around Brock Nelson would be more realistic.

Leafs fans expecting to get high value for Reimer are delusional. In acquiring Bernier, the Leafs showed that they weren't confident enough in Reimer to allow him to be their unquestioned starter. No team is now going to turn around and pay top dollar for the guy.

I don't think this is the reason that Reimer won't garner the type of return that the OP suggested.

Teams evaluate players using their own pro scouts, not what based on other roster moves the team makes.

Isles don't do this.... and I doubt the Leafs do this either, at least not without a veteran netminder coming back.

I think leafs would, they could make another move for a back up.

That said, I don't think the Isles would trade a highly regarded young player like Strome for an unproven goalie like Reimer.

leafs dont even have that second rounder... they already traded it...

and doesnt make sense for either team really....

leafs would have no back up goalie, again, might as well be reimer scrivens again. now we have 2 g's that could play30-60 games each, let them play.

islanders have need pressing need to make a move for a G with nabokov signed and poulin/nilsson. might as well let nilsson get some more ice, he is 6'5.

strome is a C, IIRC. so Tor would be sending a C in that deal regardless.

maybe they just weren't confident in a scary to watch Scrivens in the back-up role in case reimer got hurt or something unforeseen happens.

when they say like the feel like they upgraded, obviously he would say yes, bernier >>>>>>>>>scrivens.... so regardless of who is starting/backup we upgraded

no thank you, We need both our goalies at this moment. We have one of the best goalie tandems in the NHL and are going to hold on to both, until one of them solidifies their spot as the number 1.

at the Leaf fans that wouldn't do this deal.

This will be a fun one to revisit once Bernier is the clear cut starter

better safe than sorry. I know the Isles desperately need one of our goalies, or any goalie capable of winning games, but you're going to have to look somewhere else. Leafs aren't interested.
