Bluetooth connection problem - Voyager Pro+ w/ Asus z87-PRO Win7(64 bit)

I built a system (Win7, 64-bit) based on the Asus z87-PRO motherboard which has built in Bluetooth.

The headset appeared to pair/connect - however no audio is being sent.

The headset appears as a device and I can connect/disconnect - however when I connect (from the control panel device pane), instead of getting the audio confirmation from the earpiece "Phone 1 connected" (as I get when paired with my phone), I only get a "Phone 1" (no "connected"). I also get a notification "Bluetooth connection successful - Bluetooth device Voyager PRO+ is connected to the Audio Gateway service on your computer". When I disconnect, I do get the "Lost Connection" cue.

However after connecting I get no audio from the earpiece.

I updated to the most recent Atheros drivers from the ASUS website.

Any thoughts/ideas?

edit: I get the similar behavior with a second earpiece (Plantronics Voyager PRO HD) - although I do get the same full audio prompts "Phone 1 connected" "Phone 1 disconnected" as when connecting to my phone.
