Do most people on here think Statsny is a lock for Team USA. In my LIMITED viewing of him last year he looked very average. Might have just watched some of his bad games.

I know people always say USA has no centers, but I'd be comfortable rolling Stephan, Pavelski, Kesler, and Backes.

The general consensus of people I have talked to, and things I have read is that people believe Stastny is the 5th best center behind Pavelski, Kesler, Backes and Stepan, but they like the fact that Stastny is a lefty face-off man.

I personally am up in the air on him. Another center can't hurt, but I would really like the 13th forward spot to be held by someone who is more of an energy/PK specialist. Similar to Callahan in 2010. I think Callahan has a little more value this time around and should get a little more ES playing time, so someone could fill his role, like a TJ Oshie.

But they're likely to carry 5 centers just as they did in 2010 so it's not likely going to come down to just 4 in play for the team.

I personally think Stastny has a very good chance to make the team. Like 90+% chance. I'm a fan of him, but taking 5 good centers is a good idea, and the guy is still a very good playmaker for some of the scorers we will have on wing.

I just don't see 14 forwards that are better than him. Some are close, but you gotta take him, IMO.

it amazes me how quickly stastny has declined. last olympics he was playing 20 min. a game, now, im not even sure he would make USA's roster.

what USA may lack in centers, they more than make up for on the wings, D, and especially in goal.

gold medal here we come!

Thoughts?
I like it except for some D changes. Would think EJ n Shattenkirk should play on Right. Also I know ppl aren't high on Martin but I stand by fact he should be on the team. He's best on the right which IMO helps his case more as we seem weaker there.

Sutter and JJ on the same pairing is not a good idea. Both are negative Corsi.

Stastny lead the team with 15 points at the WC, I doubt he has fallen out of favor much after that.

So you think that 2 defenseman that aren't very good at driving possession should be the first pairing?

Here's a video of the players arriving at camp for a team mixer:

Is that Galchenyuk as the man in black looking like a straight-up pimp?

When someone can't spell a pretty easy name like Suter or Stepan it's a bit of a red flag just how much attention they've been giving these players over the course of the last few seasons.

@Russostrib: David Poile said Can-born #mnwild F Jason Pominville (dual citizenship) "probably should have" been invited to US camp & is "back on board"

@Russostrib: Poile has revealed US leadership group to coaches: Parise, Suter, Brown, Callahan, Backes #mnwild #lakings #nyr #stlblues #nhl

What does that mean "US leadership group"? Are they naming the captain and As at this meeting?

Not sure, I haven't seen anything else but I would definitely say they're not making anything official. I'm sure we'll know more later today when the journalists write their articles. But it's not a surprising group of leaders - I think most of us have predicted our captain/assistants from that group.

In other words, Parise and Suter made a case for Pominville and he'll be under consideration for the team if he has a good start to the season and has chemistry with Parise....

I'm interested to see if anything else comes out about this. It's not like they overlooked him. I'm thinking Poms called Poile/Burke and stated his case about seriously wanting to represent Team USA. Intended wakeup call delivered?

Could have definately played out that way. Personally, I see Pominville having a place on this team if he has a good start to the season. He can play a variety of roles well.

Why would he need a wakeup call?

Questionable dedication for USAH is the rumor. Showed up to one WC and then turned down a string of invites without injury, contract issues, and no history with Team USA.
