That wall panel is awesome. I'm guessing that will be used for playoff games for people who don't have tickets but want a party atmosphere.

Just a couple of other items as well today:

1. http://www.sacbee.com/2013/09/09/572...nd-others.html

Probably the last word now on Hansen with the anti-arena donation in Sacramento; the CA election watchdogs fined him $50k today.

2. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/T...221731371.html

Somewhat OT, but for those not aware, this is the latest dustup currently involving the ILWU. So it's not just the arena they're going after......

@findthemhot22 The NHL may be a better bet at this point.
They have that LED exterior wall thing in Newark for the devils. It looks a lot better in renderings than it does in practice.

is there the political climate to do that?

Because no one came up with the plan that did not involve public tax payers dollar. Bennet on his so called stupid renton plan wanted the state to provide 300m in tax paying dollars.

If people thought that the arena could happen in Bellevue if it doesn't in Seattle don't count on it. The one site that could work for an arena is being redeveloped.

The best place to locate a major league arena is at the downtown core of Seattle close to Safeco or CenturyLink Field.

I know. This goes back to the rumors of a Bellevue arena and the former safeway distribution center was a rumored possibly.

My point was if for some reason the arena does not happen in seattle the chances of it ending up in Bellevue is unlikely now that that former safeway site is being redeveloped into something else.

New Details emerge about the proposed Seattle Arena:

http://m.bizjournals.com/seattle/new...mg_no=1&r=full
Quote:
The latest packet has the most detailed information about the design to date. Images include renderings of both the building’s outside and its interior, including concourses and a bar with views of Mount Rainier.

In the packet, designers from the firm of 360 Architecture wrote that the building will be “the most energy- and natural resource-conserving facility of its kind anywhere in the world.”

A “sewer heat transfer” system would draw heat during the winter and reject heat in the summer, according to the packet. This will not only reduce the use of heating energy by 70 percent but would eliminate the need for cooling towers that would consume 1.8 million gallons of water a year.

A “displacement ventilation system” for the arena bowl would supply air under spectators’ seats, providing fans with 100 percent outside air.

In addition, water would be collected for nonpotable uses, such as landscaping.

The packet shows how architects have changed the design of the building, whose main plaza will be at First Avenue and Massachusetts. Sheets of water would stream across the plaza, which would have deciduous trees.

In the latest design, the east wall of the plaza would have a perforated metal screen to shade people inside from the afternoon sun, though people inside would still be able to see out. At night, the screen could be animated with LED lights, or it could be used as a surface where video of away games could be projected.

During a previous meeting, design board members said that the south wall of the arena’s main entrance at Massachusetts Street seemed institutional and predictable. Members also thought the sidewalk on the arena’s west side needed to be more lively.

In response, designers added spaces to the main plaza’s south wall for arena naming rights. Along the building’s west side, they said they would build “visually interesting and active facades and spaces through use of “feature walls” and landscaping.
So awesome.

This has probably been covered already, but why can't they just knock down Key and put the arena there? It would be a decent spot for it. I still don't think right next to Safeco/Clink is a good idea. This place will turn into a nightmare.

Key arena will be used as a temporary facility while the new one is built. The funding plan is for an arena in sodo not key arena. All the parking garages for it is in sodo and direct access to I-90 and I-5. Its better location than Key arena. Mercer street the main route to Key arena off of I-5 is a complete mess.

I don't get why people think putting this arena in the "stadium district" will be bad? There is no better location in the Seattle area in terms of transportation access than that area. All freeways meet there, all trains, ferries, busses and light rail. Seattle Center where the Key arena already has next to no alternate transit and limited parking for the few events it hosts and surrounding neighborhood.
