The one thing that really stood out on the 2 minute drive was Manuel's poise. He knew the situation, knew the clock, and checked the ball down to keep moving the chains. The one time he got pressured he got out of the pocket and threw it away.
I almost wish the drive had stalled though at the 35 yard line so we could see Hopkins try a nice long FG.
Post game is in mid-season form already. Was EJ impressive for a NFL QB, not really. Was he impressive for a rookie, well considering that I was hoping for around 60% completion and no picks, ya I was impressed. Especially when he had the presence of mind to throw balls away during that last drive. For a first rnd pick that was a better showing than I had hoped for. TBH I expected that first drive was going to last until week 8, it still may but I've at least seen something I can hang my hat on till Friday's game.
Despite not doing much against quality defenders, Manuel didn't turn the ball over, which mean he's doing what the coaches want for now. It's a good thing.
Defense looked decent against the first team, but recovered from gaffes with "lucky" plays by Brooks and Alonzo. Further, Alonzo looked good, as did Lawson.
Goodwin looks like the real deal on ST, Hopkins as well.
The young receivers were catching everything.
This can't be stressed enough. If the receivers can catch like they have in training camp and this first preseason game, then our offense will be effective. The Bills haven't had a receiving core with this much potential in decades.
It's the defense I'm worried about. Specifically against the run. hopefully Marcel can take it to the next level in his career. God knows he has the talent to. The corners scare me, too. I have a lot of trust in Gilmore. Not too much in McKelvin.
