Franson trade speculation will heat up. Leafs would like to keep him, but $$ is too much. Prospect and draft pick fair return?

Meh. Maybe.

Either Franson or Liles will likely be going somewhere else, from the looks of it.

Personally, I'd be fine either way. Neither one is a game-changer, really. They're pretty good, but LOTS of guys are pretty good.

neither one will get traded, kadri and franson will get signed. we are allowed to go over the cap by 10%. at the start of the season fraser will get sent down, reducing our cap with a total of 22 players on the roster.
will give us depth on defence for injuries, or we could make a trade further in the season if need be to bring up fraser.

remember last year in a 48 game season, how many defence we went through, depth is important in defence.

True. The writers of the NHL are really making us wait to see what happens to the Lu story. Maybe we'll find out when the next episodes air

First of all, expect quite the grievance with the NHLPA if the Leafs, or whichever team, has only 22 skaters on the roster (on a permanent basis).

Second, if the Leafs send Fraser down, they'll never see him again.

I honestly thought we would be ok...Every year we hear about teams being close to the cap, how they can't sign their own RFA's...but this has me worried...

When we used the compliance on Komi, I figured Nonis had a plan, now not so sure.

Why would the NHLPA care? They 22 NHLPA members are getting paid to the cap in TOR, and Fraser is making $900K or whatever in the AHL. Everyone wins from the NHLPA's perspective.

Fraser will be playing for another team in the NHL if he gets sent down in the AHL, so the vacant spot won't be "his" spot, but the one of a guy on a 2-way contract.
