He was cheap and effective. Letting him walk was a mistake IMO.

Don't care, hopefully everyone doesn't care. People getting booed might make him actually amp up his game for us and I would rather he just continue being his floater self.

When Leafs brought in JVR in trade to play in the Leafs top 6 it pushed MacArthur out of the top 6 and was the beginning of the end.

I liked him when he was here, but I don't really care. Hopefully he does well, just not when they play us.

ehh I liked the guy but not a big loss. IN theory we could have used his cap space better...but signing clarkson wasn't it

Clarke strikes me as a guy that will bounce around the league even moreso than he already has. He's a very vanilla player, and I mean that both as a detriment and a compliment. He's not good enough for any team to think "we need this guy longterm", but he's good enough that there will likely always be a market for him somewhere in the NHL (at least for another handful of seasons).

Heck, he might even eventually end up on a very, very good team at some point. At that point he will be in the Victor Stalberg tier of former Leafs....guys that have had decent careers post-Leafs, but ultimately weren't major difference makers anywhere they play, and subsequently aren't severely missed by Leafs fans.

3.25 for a guy who is filler on a second or third line isn't really that cheap IMO. He has some offensive skill, but not enough to create anything on his own and he just goes as his line goes. He's doesn't really add any value to a checking line either.

He'd be better than Colborne or D'Amigo who are lined up to fight for his old spot on the third line, but I don't think he's 2+ million better, especially not in that role.

Considering our cap situation, I think letting him go is an obvious move.

Probably should have traded him for the 1st rounder we supposedly could have gotten at the 2012 trade deadline.

Will cheer him and grabo. True difference makers and they remind me of better times.

There was better times with Grabo and Macarthur? You make it sound like we won something with them here

Bottom 5 overall standings 2 of the past 3 years with them in top 6 roles. They were successful under Wilson and his pond hockey system, but the team wasn't.

Last year under Carlyle when we made the playoffs, they were depth players with limited offensive contribution.

Replacing depth players with those that are expected to make better\bigger contribution in Clarkson and Bolland should move the team forward.

I don't really see where the "doesn't create offense by his own" thing is coming from. Wasn't he what, out leading scorer like two years ago? He put up .5PPG this year in a reduced role that saw his ice time slashed across the board.

And yeah, JvR makes him somewhat obsolete in the top 6 LW position, but who's going to play in the top 6 when Lupul goes on his annual 4 month medical leave? What if Clarkson struggles? MacArthur was the best depth option we had.

And absolutely, if he wasn't part of the plan, letting him walk for nothing was not a smart move, especially when teams were interested.

Also, his celebrations were the best lmao.

Just another dude passing through the turnstile. Best of luck to him but not against us. I won't boo or cheer him when we do see him play against the Leafs.

He seemed like a good guy. He probably would have stayed if management was serious about keeping him, so I don't fault him for signing with the Senators.

I'm gonna miss the guy. Not a huge difference maker, but a solid player who could chip in every now and then.
