Cash in NHL trades

When does it stop?

And can you write some trades, where was also cash included?

I readed a few time ago, that when Rangers wanted Palffy, there was about 2 500 000 USD included.
Also Kovalev.
Gretzky too?

I am not an expert on this, but I think it was banned with the 05' CBA.

I am not quite sure how long the league had the power to block trades like the Palffy trade though (that natrually happend before 05').
