Funny........but something in there to think about. Last year JT decided he was returning to his roots, prolific goal scorer. He has been quoted as saying that he loves scoring goals, expects to score a lot, and is focusing his game more on finishing than n the first 3 years of his NHL career. The evidence of this is the reports that he is working hard this off season on his slap shot, one timer, and beating defensemen 1-1 on the rush.
MM26 was used to a larger degree as a decoy/passer for JT. The league knows that MM26 has quick and accurate shooting hands down in his office when JT is getting him the disc. What we all found out is the he also can get the puck back to JT for the shot, so the defense is forced to cover more than one player. With PMB's feeding skills added to the new dimension of MM26 showing very good set up qualities, expect JT to exceed 40 goals.

I'm not so sure PMB will be on the 1st line. I wouldn't be surprised of Okposo or even, Bailey is on the first line. Don't be shocked if Clutterbuck rides shotgun as well on the first line once in a while (history w/JT, opens up space with hitting, has scored 19 goals in a season in the NHL, with a center not named Tavares, etc).

Tavares does go through slumps, and Cappy seems to mix lines up when the 1st line is struggling.

It's just MHO, but if asked, I'd bet each of Bailey, Nielsen and Okposo would like to keep that line together, even if Nielsen may be intrigued about possibly playing a bit with Peter Regin.

Well, you could be right if you ask Josh Bailey:

"After playing five years in the League, you go through your ups and downs, like any player," Bailey, 23, said. "I think you'll continue to have them, but you learn more about yourself and more about what it takes to be a pro and show up every night to compete and to contribute. Playing with great players like Kyle and [Frans] certainly helps a ton too. I'm certainly excited to do that for a full 82 [games], plus playoffs this year.

"At the end of the previous season with [Frans] and Kyle and myself, we seemed to play well together and I think we had a lot of confidence together. I think coming back from missing the first 10 games, I think it took me a few to get into the swing of things. But once that happened, I thought playing with two great players like them, the three of us really meshed well. We gained even more confidence together. I really enjoyed playing with those two guys. I think all those things combined really led our line to get some big contributions down the stretch."
I still think he should be swapped with Moulson on the 1st line. Better balance and skillset match IMO.

Except that Josh is never going to score 30, and we need weapons to complement JT. Josh is pass first, I can see other teams just double teaming JT.
Moulson needs to make strides from last year, he obviously has to be more physical and carry the puck more. A better RW is a good start for that line.

Bailey is a better overall hockey player than Moulson. He also could score 30, he's still very young.

I think Bailey has a better and more complementary skillset for the 'new/old' JT - that elite goal scorer with a shoot first and ask questions later mentality.

I wouldn't count on Bails potting 30, but it's the other parts of his game that would be a better fit IMO.

There are videos up on the Isles website of Tavares working out if anybody is interested. Pretty sure that Strome is there in 2 of them.

The workouts these guys do is absolutely insane.

It really bothers me when people complain about the amount of money these guys make when they sacrifice so much of their time and bodies to the sport.

My eventual hope for JT's left wing is not Moulson, Bailey, or anyone else on the current roster.
Bailey needs to score 20 before he scores 30, and I hope he does both in Islander Uniforms.

Moulson didn't score 20 before he scored 30. Linemates and chemistry with elite players is accurately reflected on the stats sheet. I'm not suggesting Bailey should be JT's winger or that he'll score 30 goals next year, I think the Islanders have a lot of options and Bailey's a good hockey player, whether he scores 30 on JT's wing or 15 with Nelson and Clutterbuck.

Some on this board are concerned about JT's wingers and their output - almost as though having a 40 goal winger will help the Islanders and JT. Last year, JT was a Hart finalist with two of the weakest wingers in the NHL who did very little to help JT or the Islanders, especially down the stretch. He just needs two hard-working wingers and JT will get goals and assists and help the Islanders win.

We saw how deadly the Isles can be, as a team, when they have a supporting cast. The line of Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo was the best line on the team in the final 4-5 weeks of the year and they carried the Islanders (along with Nabokov's stellar run) into the playoffs.

I'd start the season with Martin - Tavares - Clutterbuck just to set the tone for the Isles this year, a team who'll be hard to play against. And JT would do fine with those wingers especially 5on5 where the first line really sucked last year.

I'd seen those before, and several others. It's amazing the level of commitment it takes nowadays to be an elite athlete and even the most gifted players put tremendous effort into their trade.

It's great to see, great role models for kids as well.

I read somewhere that a young hockey player had approached Crosby for his autograph and Sid said to him, whatever you do, try your hardest (paraphrasing).

Watching this video and seeing JT now, he's definitely not a kid anymore. He's built like a tank for his frame, no wonder he's a puck possession beast. It's really amazing to see his development over the last 4 years, he definitely has put in the work. He's not unique in how hard he trains as I would say the majority of star players do the same, but it's his intelligence on and off the ice that has really helped him. Seriously, the kid needs a life and he needs to realize there's more to life than just hockey... after he's won us several Cups and is retired.
