Habs and Flyers swap

To Montreal: Wayne Simmonds

To Philadelphia: 2014 1st round draft pick, Brendan Gallagher, defense prospect (one of Morgan Ellis or Dalton Thrower)

Habs get some much needed size, toughness and scoring on the right wing. Flyers get some cap relief, a nice prospect and a guy who was a finalist for rookie of the year.

Thoughts?

No sense in dealing Simmonds for cap relief when he is on a great contract for another 5 years. I don't think the value is terrible but it doesn't make sense for Philly.

Flyers won't do this. Simmonds is on a sweet contract. He's not the kind of guy you trade for cap relief.

Great value for both teams. As a montreal habs fan, I dont trade my 2014 first pick, because I dont think we have a top 10 team. If we have key injuries (subban, Patches) we doesnt have many depth and this first round pick can translate into a top 15 pick.

Simmonds is a better player than Gally now but in the future who's know ? I pass.

Not enough to entice Philadelphia.

One of those d prospects would have to be between Beaulieu and Tinordi.

As much I love Tinordi and I'm stoked on Gallagher, I wouldn't trade Simmonds with his contract for Tinordi, Gallagher and a 1st.

I was going to say a 1st and one of Ellis/Thrower might get Hartnell, but I see he's not a rental. No idea what I was thinking.

As a Habs fan, I don't do it. I think Simmonds > Gallagher, but you don't add a 1st round pick to swap 2nd liners. + Gallagher is a fan favourite a treat to watch play

Flyers need a #1 defenseman. Short of that, I don't see Simmonds, either Schenn, Couturier ever being traded.

Yeah, we heard the same about Carter and Richards.

If a trade comes up Homer likes, he'll take it. Whether a number 1 d is involved, or not.

Did anyone say that about Carter and Richards? Nope.

When we had them, we had 2 #1 D men in Timonen and Pronger. We all knew carter was getting moved for youth.

28 point in 44 games with +10 at 20 years old since he turn 21 in may ... And he only played 13 min game average !! Ok simmonds does bring more grit but gally will defenetly bring more skill !! I would love to have simmonds and I would take him over gally right now but the difference between the 2 player is not a first round and a b prospect !! Keep dreaming if u think u will get that for simmonds !!

I know Simmonds is a better more experienced play but LOL Gally had as many goals as Simmonds and only 4 less points last season. Then Montreal adds a 1st and a prospect?

Simmonds has to be one of the most overrated player on HF. The guy never hit 50 points or 30 goals but he is somehow worth more than a calder nominee, a first and a decent prospect. I guess that HF obsession with physical play gives him so much value.

He put up 28 goals and had 49 points in 2011-2012 (0.60 PPG).

Then he put up 0.71 PPG this year in the shortened season.

All while being physical and an awesome net front presence.

Since joining the Flyers, he has played 127 regular season games. In that period, he scored 43 goals and put up 38 assists. That's 81 points. 81 points in 127 games. That's about 52 points over an 82 game season.

Combine those 52 points with his physical play, fighting ability, and contract (6 more years at $3.975M/yr), you have one hell of a valuable asset.

Seriously, how many players are ~50 pt, ~25 goal scorers who can do this?

Not a bad proposal would have to think long and hard about it.

the Flyers are never the team that trade proven players for potential.

Value of the return is good but no way I would want to see him leave the Flyers. His contract is too good and he brings too much to the team.

Montreal fans love gallagher. Hes there spark plug. You will never see him in a trade. Especially for simmonds.

From the Flyers: Quantity for quality
From the Habs: Too much quality quantity for quality

No deal from both sides.

Simmonds is the kind of guy EVERY team wants. If you only look at the stat sheet, you aren't seeing half of what he brings to the table. I think the offer is fair, I just don't think he will be traded, unless it's as part of a package for a 1 Dman.

I know Gallagher is a super nice player, but Simmonds-type power forwards who are plus skaters, be physical and finish around the net are rare. Not to mention, his contract is amazing value for the Flyers. Also, we don't have a top-6 winger that can step in and fill his role. This just doesn't come close to working for us.

Edit: It feels like this is the 10th thread where a Habs fan has offered for Simmonds. Please stop.

I think it's a fair offer honestly. Flyers still wouldn't do it though.
